The Saint Lucia Fire Service (SLFS) says it has received reports that an imposter claiming to represent the organisation has been soliciting funds from the public.
SLFS spokeswoman Stacy Joseph noted that impersonating a fire service member is illegal.
Under the law, impersonating a fire service member carries a fine of $150 or imprisonment for three months on summary conviction.
Joseph stated regarding the impersonation reports, "We condemn this behaviour and urge the public to be cautious when approached by individuals seeking financial assistance."
She urged people whom the imposter might have approached and who lost money to report the matter to the police.
The SLFS Communications Officer thanked the public for supporting the organisation and its members but lamented that the impersonator was misusing that trust.
Nevertheless, Joseph assured the public that the fire service remains dedicated to serving and protecting the citizens of Saint Lucia and will continue to do so with 'utmost devotion'.
