one thing i learned as i started cooking as a hobby recently is that it doesn't have to be an all-or-nothing thing.
i can cook just what i want—adopting cooking as a hobby shouldn't pressure me to oh i need to learn to cook everything including those i don't like eating! or i should feel bad if i can't cook this! or i shouldn't cook if i still order takeouts!
it looks obvious in hindsight, but it's also very easy to forget that many things in life are just labels:
labeling cooking as my "hobby" doesn't mean i have to conform that to others' definition of the same thing.
my friend cooks many common local meals and i cook only select, random pieces of Korean or Chinese dishes that i like. no one is a "better" or "truer" cook than the other.
i don't have to compare myself to others—
it's my own hobby anyway.
