Yes, I want to speak up for the two common emotions that are often frowned upon in our society: anger and fear. They're two basic emotions. "Basic" in the sense that they mirror our instincts in the fight or flight scenario. Will you eat the Sabre tiger or be its dinner?
However, as basic as they are, anger and fear are often suppressed, or disguised maybe a better descriptor, in our civilization. Heaven forbid if we are shown being mad and losing control of the situation. Same goes with being afraid. They are viewed typically as weaknesses.
But the paradox is - anger and fear are parts of our feelings. They will never go away. The more we try to hide them, the more we're not honest about our feelings. Rather, I feel it's better to embrace them. Being mad as hell or scared stiff indicates we are genuinely human.
We're responsible for our behavior. It speaks about who we are. I would be suspicious of someone who is forever delightful or always fearless. I wonder if they are just faking it.
How would you feel about showing anger & fear?
