There are countless ways we can purchase books.
However, in the grand scheme of things, many of us gravitate toward online, or grabbing a book while shopping for other items in a chain store, or visiting a well-known bookstore, all of which is great.
But today, let's focus on the cozy neighborhood independent bookstores who struggle for attention amongst the big names.
Like all small businesses, they rely on customers and word of mouth to keep their doors open. Most offer a variety of engagement for readers of all ages, that often goes unnoticed.
The same is true for independent authors (like myself) who don't have the financial means or marketing expertise to make our voices heard.
We write and/or own a bookstore because it's our passion. Because we can't imagine doing anything else. But we need your support.
My dream is to open a sweet bookstore cafe someday, where people can meet, mingle, and lose themselves in the enchanting world of reading.
Today (especially) if you're out and about, stop by a local independently owned bookstore. Even if you can't afford to make a purchase, please show your love. Make the owner feel seen. Post about them on social media. Tell your friends and neighbors.
I'm heading out on to visit as many local indie bookstores as I can. One customer at a time, we can make a difference.
