Gbade went to pay his family a visit later in the day. They were very happy to see him. Their discussion was suddenly interrupted by a call.
Gbade checked his phone and saw that it was Vera calling. He ended the call but the phone rang again. What did she want?
"Hello" He picked up.
"Good evening Gbade" She said coolly.
"Good evening. How are you doing?"
"I'm alright and you?"
"I'm good, we thank God"
"It's been a while. You just forgot me…"
"Um… Is there something important you want to talk about? I'm kind of busy at the moment" He replied.
His parents and siblings were already paying attention to the conversation but they pretended not to.
Vera bit her lip thinking of what to say. "I'm sorry about what happened. I'm a changed person now. Can you give me another chance?" She faked tears.
He wasn't moved. "It's fine. I hold nothing against you but it can't work. I'm done with that chapter of my life"
"Because of her, right?"
"Because of who?" Gbade blinked.
"That was a mistake, never mind. We're cool, right?"
"Sure. Take care of yourself"
"You too" She replied and ended the call.
She let out a scream and threw her pillows across the room.
"What chapter of your life are you done with?" Gbade's mother, Mrs. Williams asked.
"It's nothing serious mum"
"Hmmn… Speaking about chapters Gbade, when will you bring her to see us?" She asked.
"Who?"
"Your wife to be of course! I thought you had a girlfriend?"
Gbade's father coughed playfully. "Why wasn't I informed about this?"
His siblings, Gbolahan and Gbemi laughed. Gbade was closer to his mum than his dad.
"Sorry dad. Anyway, we're not together anymore"
"Awww, why?" Gbemi sighed.
"Wait, was she the one that just called?" His mother calculated.
"Yeah… She was asking whether we could get back together"
"Why can't you give her another chance?" His mother asked.
"I found out that she was dating her boss… who is a married man"
"Ahhh!" They all exclaimed in shock.
"And when I confronted her, she said she was doing it to keep her job and to get promotions. That she doesn't love him"
"Wow… I'm glad you found out on time oh. Some ladies are very funny. I thought you said you guys attend the same church…" Mrs. Williams sighed.
"Yeah… There are different kinds of people in church these days and you must be discerning. This lady is so gifted and she is even a member of the choir. You need to see her ministering or praying, you would never believe she was capable of doing such a thing. Well, she said she has repented and I wish her the best"
"That is why we should always look out for the fruit of the spirit in a person instead of gifts or even physical appearance. Some people are not who they claim to be" Mr. Williams added.
"Hmmn... yes sir" Gbade replied and the others nodded.
"But you're going to give love another chance, right?" Gbolahan asked.
"I will… Very soon" Gbade chuckled.
To be continued...
Dear reader, hope you're not living a double life? Do you put up an act in church but when you're outside, you're a different person?
You
