The following day, Ogechi tried on the necklace. She clutched the pendant and smiled as she repeated the words inscribed on it. "God's beloved… Yes, I'm God's beloved…"
Shalom suddenly entered the room and Ogechi felt like she had been caught stealing meat from the pot.
"What is it?" Shalom asked, trying to decipher the look on Ogechi's face. Then she noticed the necklace hanging on her neck and touched it. "Wow, this is beautiful. When did you get it?"
Ogechi subconsciously pushed Shalom's hands away. She didn't want anything to happen to her necklace.
"It's a gift…"
"From where? From who? From a man?" Shalom asked excitedly. She gasped when Ogechi didn't deny it.
Ogechi laughed and put her hand over her mouth. "It's just a friendship gift. Calm down!"
"Is it from Uncle Gbade? I think he likes you sis" She wiggled her brows playfully sending Ogechi into another round of laughter until her phone started to ring. It was the subject of their discussion...
"Excuse me, I have to take this important call" She feigned seriousness and headed out of the room.
"The garden is a good spot for receiving important calls. You're welcome!" Shalom shouted after her.
"Hello" her soft voice rang through the phone into his eardrums. He didn't even know why he called or what he wanted to say. He just wanted to hear her voice.
"Hello. How are you doing?" he asked.
"I'm fine and you?"
"I'm doing great"
"Thank you for the gift once again"
"How many times will you thank me, ehn? You're welcome" He smiled.
She smiled too.
"So, how's preparation for the new year?" He continued.
"Hmmn… It's going well. Though I wish I could actually take a leave from work to just have a retreat. However, I have to be at work from tomorrow till 31st"
She replied.
"I totally understand. Working in Lagos is something else. You can still make out time to just pray and document words that God is giving you for the coming year"
"Sure, thank you"
"If you don't mind, we could have a call to pray and share words with each other… I'm sure the Lord will give you plenty words for me. I know I'm speaking with a prophet nau" He teased.
"Please o. I'm just a small girl" She chuckled. "That would be nice though"
"Alright. We'll fix a time for that soon. It was nice talking to you"
"Same here… Have a wonderful day"
"And you too dear" He answered and waited for her to end the call.
"It's just prayers!" She chided herself for smiling so much.
To be continued...
