A Look at Our Week

It's been a productive week around here! Tuesday was cloudy and rainy all day but we still had plenty of indoors chores to keep us all busy. Bro is busy (hopefully) cleaning and reorganizing his living areas. He keeps mentioning purging lots of items which definitely needs to be done. I know he's working on his impressive cologne display and we are anxiously waiting for the unveiling. My guy has been busy this week. He did all of the required maintenance on the 4-wheeler. It was something new for him and it didn't come without a few road blocks but he persevered and got the job done. I'm not sure he'll ever do it again, but lots of lessons were learned. He's also been busy with train work prepping for a new display shelf that should be arriving Wednesday!

Of course I've been busy as well. I've been deep cleaning the entire house. As I've said before, I'm a habitual list maker. I have a weekly list, a monthly list, a seasonal list, several other random list and I also have a room that I focus on each week when time allows. There is a list with all of the extra/deep cleaning to be done for each room. Well the last two weeks I've completed almost all of the focus room lists in preparation for our upcoming guests and festivities. I've also been working on the outside. I've pulled all the weeds, spread the mulch and have all my spring flowers and decor out! Yay for Spring! I love winter, but I love when a new season begins too. I have added a feature to my flower beds that I'm not quite ready to publicize yet. I am very happy with how they turned out and will share pictures soon! I was thrilled to see the irises that I replanted last fall starting to bloom! Gardening win! The house is ready, now just a few party prep items and then food prep will start next week. I do have a day for penciled in before that happens. Hopefully it will be able to happen.

Busy Hands & Busy Mind

Well, I called it! I've made several comments after my last few trips to my local Walmart about the depleting fabric section. During my most recent trip I was convinced I had went down the wrong aisle when I saw coolers where my bolted fabric belonged. Nope. Not the wrong aisle. All the bolted fabric, interfacings, precut fabrics and some of the fat quarter selection is gone. Now this discovery has pros and cons. The biggest con of course is loss of quick availability. If you're addicted to fabric like I am shopping online for it is difficult. I like to touch it and see the colors in bright store lights. The biggest and maybe only pro to it is I'm bound to spend less money now lol and my Walmart trips should be much quicker since I won't be able to get lost in fabric wonderland. I love a fat quarter (for those that may not know, a fat quarter is a quarter of a yard of fabric but it is cut differently ("fat") giving it a different shape) and find them useful for so many of my projects. I am pretty sure I own every fat quarter pattern remaining in stock at Walmart.

As far as other local fabric buying options, we do have an independent quilt/fabric store downtown. I've stopped in there a few times and I use them for quilting my t-shirt quilts. Of course, their prices are a bit higher than Walmart but she does have a good selection of quilting cottons. In Johnson City there is a Joann Fabrics and a Hobby Lobby. I visit both quite often. I am a little worried about the Joann's though with the company restructuring, ours is a smaller store and I worry it may get closed. I've been checking out my online fabric buying options and will use that when I don't have any other options. There are 2 big fabric stores I pass during my travels that I have had on my bucket list to check out, I may have to make that happen. And I always try to visit the Ohio Joann's when we are there. That is their home base and I've visited some huge stores on our Ohio travel path.

I've had to turn my sewing room back into an entertaining spot (it is really the sunroom) so I have used that chore as an excuse to reorganize my fabrics. I'm not sure why I worry about being able to buy fabrics when I have soooo sooo much! The room is entertaining ready now and still able to function as a sewing area so I've been going through a stack of fabric that was bought for specific purposes and getting the patterns cut out so once things are set back up I am ready to go. My market/craft show season will be starting up soon too so I need some newer products ready to go. I've been working on more of the Euro style scrub caps and should have several of those ready soon.

Crocheting is usually a winter activity for me but I didn't get the crochet bug this winter. I am catching up now though. Just having one crochet project is never enough for me. I am working on 3 different projects and will switch off as I get bored with one. Working on a thick heavy afghan when it's warm outside reminds me why I usually work on those during the winter time. Here's a picture of two of the afghans I'm working on.

What's for Dinner?

For several nights we had wedding shower leftovers! Charcuterie items, pigs in a blanket and sausage balls. Those are all gone now and I've actually had to cook a meal or two. Since my guy has reactivated his Facebook account he has been finding recipes that sound good to him and sending them to me. I love this! I'm always looking for new ideas and love input! We tried out one of his recipes this week, French Onion Chicken Skillet. It was delicious! We finished off the last of the shower's broccoli with it. Cheesy Meatball Parmesan was a new recipe I had found. It was a big hit as well.

Gardening Fun

I feel a little lost without all my garden season prep happening. We've decided to take a year off from the garden. We have some travel plans on the calendar this summer and just feel ready for a little break. We are planning on planting some corn in the garden area and I'll do s few tomato plants in pots on the porch as well.

I have given a little special attention to my houseplants though. Several got repotted last week and they've all been trimmed up and are looking great.

Sappy Selfies

Another week with no selfies, not much to take pics of when you just stay home all the time lol! But here are some pics from the shower last week that I didn't have when I posted last week's blog! Have a great week! XOXO
