"Immediately Jesus made His disciples get into the boat and go ahead of Him to the other side to Bethsaida, while He Himself was sending the crowd away. After bidding them farewell, He left for the mountain to pray.". Mark 6:45-46
Jesus had put the disciples on a boat. He told them He would meet them on the otherside. Then He finished tending to the crowds and went away to pray. There are many things in this story that have me asking questions.
1- Why didn't the disciples question how Jesus would get to the other side of the sea? Yes, He ended up walking on the water, but I expected a question from the disciples. Even with modern transportation I ask my husband if we aren't going together.
2. Why would the disciples go when there were still remnants of the crowd left there with Jesus? They were His students which would have also made them His helpers, so why didn't they send Jesus off to pray while they wrapped things up? Usually the leader doesn't take care of the small details, of course Jesus isn't any normal leader.
3. How often does the Lord give us instructions
and then go silent? Jesus told the disciples to go and then He withdrew. In my own life there are times that God will speak to me and then I feel like He goes silent, waiting for my obedience in the matter.
Lord, I often read scriptures and get more questions. If You want me to go deeper, help me know. Where there is doubt, increase my faith. Where it is just my mind, keep me from chasing squirrels!
