Computer, the internet, and mobile phones are the big-three inventions come to mind that fueled the growth. Even so, with data at our fingertips, how much we know about ourselves remains uncertain. If anything, the information technology has become a double-edged sword. While offering unprecedented access to data and knowledge, it also poses abundant distractions and detachment from our inner selves. Think misinformation, tabloid and fake news. People are glued to their mobile phones, binge-watching Netflix, or immersing in games online. Any wonder little time is left for self reflection or introspection. Which raises the question that how much do we truly know about ourselves compared to before [IT]? Information technology gives us the means to collect, analyze, and share data. However, the quantity of data has exceeded our ability to comprehend them. Data size has exploded from data bank to warehouse to lake. Without meaningful insights, our knowledge about ourselves remain at arm's length.
