I want to talk a little about the gift that keeps on giving.
We seem to be struggling with sexuality inside the Church again. This time it is the Black Community that has to weather this "ill storm".
"Televangelists", I will use this word to categorize, just for clarity. They seem to be making money hand over fist. There was talk about one such preacher owning a plane. Is that what "tithing" buys these days?
It is no surprise that today some of the most popular television preachers are finding themselves in the headlines. Why? I think for centuries the Church has harbored some of the most convincing pimps, posted on the pulpit preaching salvation. But that is just my thoughts.
Now take this all with a grain of salt because I'm a tad bit biased. Well, maybe more than a tad. Olsteen never went to seminary, to get a degree to support beings "called by God" to preach. I mean, nobody checked his credentials? Oh, I get it, he inherited it from his father. Hump!!! O-kay, that how it works?
Moving on to Jakes. What's that now? You heard!! Jakes and Diddy!
Oh my, what a tangled web we weave when we trying to deceive. (Paraphrased, pardon!!).
I'm just saying, that when we turn a blind eye, all kinds of stuff pops off. We know and we keep silent because somebody getting paid somewhere over this mess. Cars, houses, boats, planes; Oh My!!
When things get rough, now who are you gonna call? Your Pastor/Televangelist/Pimp? Sorry, I could not help that. As I said before, this is all about me and my perspective. Right? Right?
Seriously though, the Church has always been full of secrets. Why are we surprised?
The Big Secret: How did Adam and Eve go about populating the world without somebody breaking the law? (My 11-year-old self still waiting for that answer.)
Someone said, "This prosperity theology" is a cash cow and a way for everyone to pay their way into Heaven.
FYI: Prosperity theology, when preachers preach of prosperity for all who believe. (Again paraphrased).
I did not list all the "televangelists", making a name for themselves and making big money from folks just trying to live their best lives. That would have put me in my sad place and I would have to console myself with a bottle of red.
