Six African Proberbs for Fearless Love

It is that absolutely wonderful time of year again! The African Proverbs Series has been one of the most popular for the sage and lore it provides over the years. What's great is that you can start using the wisdom of the ancestors the same day.

That is why today we will look at 6 African proverbs for Love and Affection. These proverbs will help you spice up your love, show your loved ones you care and show kindness to passing strangers.

1. The house of a person we love is never far. – Kenya (Kikuyu)
A sign that someone who loves you will always make time. This is one of many ways we can know that someone cares. Sure life can get hectic, but for someone you love, you will be willing to make thw sacrifice. It is also a lesson to make time for those we lobe--even if we must go out of our way to do so. Sometimes, sacrifice ia necessary just to show someone you care.

2. One who loves you, warns you. – Uganda (Baganda)

Excellent point! Too often we've come to find comfort in the echo chamber. People who only tell us what we want to hear will have to overlook dangers and pitfalls to keep us happy. But they are not real friends or allies who won't tell you when you are getting ready to make a mistake. Someone willing to warn you and tell you the truth loves you a million times more than those who placate. Try to find and surround yourself with people that love you enough to warn you!

3. "What you help a child to love can be more important than what you help him to learn."- African Proverb

It's true. As the old saying goes, "the heart has reasons the mind knows not of." What becomes an intergal part of us, what we deeply love has a greater impact upon us because the relationship we have with what we love, goes beyond knowing. While knowledge is power, the things we love become a part of our character and we are anchored to them for better or worse. If we value community, committment, peace, faith, etc. these, we will not soon abandon, even when our logical mind wants us to do it. Even the most logical man falls in love one day--even if he will not admit it.

4. "Despite the beauty of the moon, sun, and the stars, the sky also has a threatening thunder and striking lightning."- African Proverb.

It is an important point to ponder about anything or anyone you dare to love. Every personality has its thunder and lightening. It is important to remember that no one is perfect, so we must be willing to accommodate some "human" storms. This is not a call to accept abuse, but to recognize the sky, nor your loved one will always be sunny and bright. But all storms pass, and we have the beautiful sky to enjoy.

5. "The skin of the leopard is beautiful, but not his heart."- Baluba (Congolese) Proverbp

It's a warning that no matter how beautiful or handsome, it is the character or heart of a person that determines the experience with them. The beauty of a leapord will not make it gentle or tame with you. Its nature is wild. It wilk be wild with you too. Therefore, you must behave accordingly. Don't neglect to check for character, just because the one you fancy is pretty or handsome.

6. "A child is like an axe; even if it hurts you, you still carry it on your shoulder."- Bemba Proverb.

This is a proverb that only a parent might truly underatand. It is the story of sometimes carrying that which truly wounds you,but depends on you. And si, for the love and care of it you must see to its well-being, even when it wounds you. We know Children are not perfect, but they are the things we created and so we carry them on our shoulder and in our hearts as that part of ourselves that is apart from ourselves. The ax may be sharp, but it is still our own.

Here's to hoping you enjoyed the sage in these wonderful proberbs from the ancestors. They teach us to love beyond the cliches to the humanity at the core of every human being. The humanity to be hapoy and sad, to laugh and cry, to fall in lobe and find hope in tiny things that remind us just how beautiful life really is...

Happy Valentine's Day! Fall in love with all that is possible in a single moment! Live full, live love! 💋💋💋
