Just Revel in the Confusion

No spoilers

Butch:

Anything? I didn't get it going yet.

As long as I have the big dildo melee weapon…

As for tats, me am what me am.

Loothound:

Hey, man, if you don't find them distracting then enjoy. Personally, I don't think you can improve on skin.

Oh, god, I forgot about the dildo weapon. Imagine showing up in the afterlife for your pre-eternity interview.

Anubis: "So, how did you die?"

Rando Thuggington III: "Um…motor boating accident."

Anubis: "I see…and, what is that sticking out of your neck?"

Rando: "Um, a candle…that I happened to land on…in…the accident."

<<Skeptical Jackal Face emote>>

Feminina:

I feel like I missed this weapon.

Although not, you know, a lot.

Loothound:

Are you sure? I feel like you got it before I did and we joked about it, but your memory is generally better than mine about this stuff so maybe not.

Got it to work. I had ONE save that was from before the final mission. I loaded it, and the Phantom Liberty mission immediately went off. So Looty's ready to loot, and kill. Not necessarily in that order. In fact, usually not.

Butch:

Take some time, though!  Stroll around!  Practice the very complex controls which will befuddle me for a week and a half!

You got the weapon from hooking up with some random woman.  The corpo lady, I think.

Loothound:

Oh, I will. Whole new map, and all. Right there with you on the controls, Butch. I have no recollection of how the hacking mechanic works in this game, and I wasn't that good at it in the first place. That's gonna take some time to get used to again.

Feminina:

I remember hearing about this weapon...I just feel like I never actually had it. Maybe I didn't hook up with the corpo lady. Or maybe I had it and forgot about it.

In other news, I played a bit and I am deeply confused and disoriented.

My most recent pre-point-of-no-return save was in the middle of some job (that one where you have to take revenge on a scientist for experimenting on nomads) and I didn't remember what I was doing or why or how to get out of the building I had apparently gotten into, and then my phone was ringing with this new Dogtown job, and also I didn't have any of my perks set up and couldn't remember what perks I used to have or why. And my phone was ringing again with Viktor telling me I need new cyberware, and I also can't remember what any of my implants do.

Also, none of my clothes have any benefits anymore! I swear clothes used to have armor bonuses and other things, and I wore different things for specific reasons, but now basically nothing has any armor except a literal armored vest. So I guess the only reason to wear anything else is fashion?

I decided to blame Johnny and just assume this is another instance of V coming to her senses in the middle of a confusing situation, and I made it out eventually, but I still don't remember how to do anything, so this should be exciting. Had to look up how to put away my gun.

In order to not get into any more combat while wildly confused, I went back to my apartment for a very awkward date with River. I'm not sure if it was meant to be awkward, because V isn't good at human interaction or whatever, or if it was meant to be very romantic and it was just awkwardly animated.

I'm so confused. But Dogtown awaits, apparently. Also Viktor and implants.

Butch:

I was afraid of this.  This game was complicated the first time around, and that's when we started at the beginning.

Hmm.

Going to have to practice.

Stuff did have armor!  We joked about how my Velianna was half naked most of the time and was a tank!  All "No, really, that has good armor!"

Damn.  I liked that outfit.  Or lack thereof.

Loothound:

This is definitely a PS4 vs. PS5 thing, because when I was rebuilding my character the other night in the PS4 version all of the clothing had an armor value. I NEVER would have been wearing what I was wearing if it weren't for armor value. It also all usd to have mod slots, which I noticed was wasn't there when Femmy was playing last night.

The change in the number of perk points I had in the PS5 version also makes more sense, because the skill tree looked entirely different. There seemed to be a lot fewer of them. No idea what the hell is going on with this, but I hope it becomes clearer as I play tonight.

Feminina:

It's tough because originally we built up our characters by adding perks over time to match our priorities and playstyle and so forth, and now we have to do it all at once and I was looking at it last night thinking I don't even know what my priorities or playstyle are.

I think I did a lot of hacking, so I threw a bunch of points into that, but I don't remember how it works, so am I actually going to be able to use any of them?

I'm sure it'll all come back to us...

Loothound:

No kidding. At least it didn't reset our base ability scores. I maxed out agility and cool, and I remember focusing on being a pistol wielder, weapon-wise. Other than that, no idea.

Butch, what's your character's background? I'm a street kid, and Femmy's a corpo. Do we have the full set here?

Butch:

Nah, I'm street kid.  I, too, went heavy into pistols.  I also fried a lot of brains from a distance.  I remember that.

This is going to take a while, isn't it?

Feminina:

Good thing the Baldur's Gate discs probably won't arrive until June.

Loothound:

That sounds a lot like my build. I remember doing a lot of hacking into camera systems and then frying people through the video feed. Then stealthing around and headshotting as many as possible. Have a specially kitted out revolver for the purpose.

I really don't get why the mod slots seem to be gone. Modding equipment was a huge part of the game, if I remember correctly. Also crafting. It's going to be really strange picking up the game after so long and having stuff be different. I won't be able to tell if I'm misremembering things or if they changed while I wasn't looking.

Butch:

Or both.  Probably both.  For me, it's usually both.

By June I might have figured out how to crouch.

Feminina:

And yet I still picked up a bunch of components last night – what are those for if not crafting mods? But why craft mods if nothing has mod slots anymore?

I'm so confused.

Butch:

I'm beyond confused.  I'm fidgeting with it now.  Seems SOME clothes have perks.  Just not the ones I LIKED.

I'm confused.

Also, can I fast travel?  Why can't I fast travel?

Loothound:

You have to use the Metro stations to fast travel. Or, summon your magical motorcycle, oh Paladin of ye Cyber Realms!

Butch:

Ah yes.  Figured it out.

OK, got dressed, tried to figure out controls, have to go find a ripperdoc, tried to assign skills which are all different and god knows if I did it right.  I'll likely have regrets.

Hung out with Judy.  Smooched, showered, liked how she slapped my ass when I looked in the mirror, danced.  Gotta have awkward dancing.

Got the mission.

Must find ripper and must practice.

Game is complicated.  What was RAM again?  How did I do that?

Feminina:

I think you use RAM to to hack people in combat? Maybe?

I don't remember, but I plan a quick jaunt to the 'database' section of the menu next time I sign in, and hopefully it will be in there. I know I USED to know how. With luck, it'll come back to me.

Database did tell me that you double-hit triangle to holster your gun, which was very helpful in letting me not act like a homicidal weirdo while strolling down the street.

Mind you, I AM a homicidal weirdo, no argument on that, but I don't necessarily want to advertise it all the time.

Butch:

I just want to know where my FABULOUS shoes went.

I forgot I ended the game dressed as Johnny.  I thought that was poetic.

I do remember frying people's brains...

Loothound:

Okay, so I have been using my free moments today (few and far between, BTW) to try and search up some answers to the questions, and there is practically NOTHING. Everything that talks about differences between versions is all, "framerate!" "Resolution!" "Rendering!" "Explosions!" Apparently those are much cooler and more realistic now. No mention of where mods went, why most clothing has no armor rating, anything. Are we just nuts, here?

Feminina:

I mean, that's always a possibility.

Maybe mods will come back once we...get more involved? Or something?

Loothound:

Maybe. All of that stuff was there when I installed off of the PS4 disc, though. Nothing special required. There have been a number of updates and patches since it first came out. Maybe they got phased out gradually, so nobody talks about them anymore?

Butch:

Yeah, we're up to "version 2.1."  I've heard of patches changing gameplay, but damn.  This is CHANGING GAMEPLAY.

Also, what's with two thirds of the skills being locked?  Pro?  Phenom?  What the hell?  That's new.

Loothound:

Do you remember how insanely buggy the game was when it first came out? Limbs floating in mid air? Gunfire animations getting stuck on repeat, while everything else went on all "la-di-dah." Not that it's relevant to what we've been talking about, but the game has come a long way.
