If you live in the suburb of Washnington DC like I do, chances are you're sucked into the orbit of endless news cycles. Be it national, international, or local news, there is no shortage of headlines to fill the regualr and social media. Most of them, I can do little about.
Why bother with them, you ask? Maybe it's m,y fear of missing out? I don't know. Making the matter worse, these relentless churns generate a feeling of powerlessness.
So, depending on my time, energy and interest level, I scan or skim the headlines. Only pause to read if something catches my fancy. I'm more selective with my time in retirement. Because, I don't try to keep up with the Jones. And, my time is precious.
FOMO no longer bothers me. I rather forgo the frustrations from reading the same proablems over and over. Instead, I prefer to focus on my circle of influence with my efforts - invest in something I have control over.
What's in your circle of influence?
