For God shows no partiality. Romans 2:11
Today's devotion started with, "We can't tell people to come as they are but insist they change before they arrive. People grow where they are loved". ~Bob Goff
I used to say, "God loves everybody, but I'm his favorite". I realize He does love me, but He is not partial. God doesn't show favorites. We would all be His favorites. He wants all people to experience His love, it is who He is. He loves this right where we are. He loved each one of us while we were still sinners. We are required to love as He does.
Bob Goff's quote reminds me of one of the first messages I heard from Christine Caine. She said, "We are called to be fishers of men, but we can't clean the fish before we catch them."
Only God can change people. We are called to love them. It is not always pretty. It's not easy. God knows loving me isn't. I feel like I'm further along than I used to be; but I know I'm still difficult to love. I'm sure there are a lot of people in my world that wish God could give me a quick work over in my character flaws, instead of allowing me to be changed through process. Most of the time, I receive love and grace. Others need that same opportunity, realizing none of us is a finished work.
Lord help me to love others as You do. Help me to accept them right where they are and let You change what needs to be changed.
