Reality Reflection: Mixed Snow Blessings

How do you feel about snow? Are you someone who loves the cool/cold weather so much that you're willing to take it on so that you're not sweating like crazy or are you someone who actually loves all things snow like the outdoor activities and how it looks and the fun things you can do with it (while avoiding the yellow snow of course)? Or are you someone who just puts up with it because it is part of Mother Nature and you'd rather have more types of weather than fewer? Or are you someone who actively longs for the day you can move or retire to somewhere that a light dusting causes businesses and schools to close for the day because snow is kind of a "once in a blue moon" thing?

I've grown up with snow my whole life and I can tell you that there's still magic to be experienced when it falls even after all these years. It's still mind blowing to me to know that the same skies that have rainbows and blue that goes as far as the eye can see and has puffy clouds float around and drops buckets of water also can release to the ground these white flakes that don't disappear as fast as the other types of weather day. There's definitely magic to be felt when the snow falls, just like the movies try to portray. But the older I get, the less I enjoy about "big storm alerts" and predictions from the Farmer's Almanac that it's going to be a snowy winter. It might be more welcomed if clearing the snow off of cars and where we park wasn't a thing or if snow only fell when no one had to get anywhere and other people were adults about responsibly clearing places properly of snow, but none of those are true.

So after this storm we had that has me reacquainted with certain muscles and gear that I haven't used in a while (and don't have any pressing need to use again soon) I'm reminded that so much of life comes with pros and cons, positives and negatives, wins and costs. Some things are just plain awesome and there really isn't a noticeable cost or sacrifice associated, but for so many things there is. And as I think about what this storm could have been versus what it was, all I am is thankful.

I'm thankful we didn't get any more snow than we did where I live at least, I'm thankful the storm passed relatively quickly, I'm thankful for all the people who had safe travels in it, I'm thankful for the people who worked hard to keep the roads clear, and I'd be thankful if this was the only storm we got this year. But I'm also thankful for the opportunity to experience the magic of snow again, I'm thankful for all the snow enthusiasts who get to be out in it, I'm thankful the people who make money clearing snow were able to earn that money again, and while the kids didn't get a day off of school because of the storm, I'm thankful that at least they get to play in it.

What mixed blessings have you experienced in your life recently?
