Here's my rinse of one of Toto's oldies but goodies from 2013:
Happy New Year, my friend. Once again, this week is quiet, thoughtful, and the chance for another beginning of sorts. Around this great country of ours, folks are re-making their same old new year resolutions.
The number one resolution year after year in America is to lose weight. Fact. We are getting fatter and have been for a while. The problem is that the two are not one. We are obsessed with losing weight on the outside when we need to gain more...on the INside.
Want resolve which lasts more than a few weeks? Build your interior space, your BUILT TO LEAD CORE. Over time and through adversity you will gain clarity of who you really are, what you deeply believe, and where you're going with a sense of purpose -- and slowly you will begin to align your behaviors with your beliefs. Aligning behaviors with beliefs is what creates resolve.
First, you have to do the real, hard, work to author your own worldview. Stop focusing first on fixing your behaviors. Aligning behaviors with beliefs begins with deep clarity around beliefs. This clarity will only arrive after a ton of rinsing. You must write and write some more. You must confront questions or Moments of Truth (MOTs) you've previously brushed aside. You must argue with yourself and even with some strong others. You must invest time where Y.O.U. are uncomfortable. You must face whatever depressing facts stand in your way. You must get to the root of what is really weighing you down. Once your hard-fought clarity comes, your CORE will carry you not just away from the dessert table and to the gym, but to the O.P.U.S. of your Dream State. You see, CORE strength is the root of resolve -- the real six-pack you need.
Remember, resolutions only stick when you re-solve the root problem. Re-solve to resolve.
