Bloganuary writing prompt
What's the thing you're most scared to do? What would it take to get you to do it?
Ha!
I have A LOT of things I'm scared to do:
Say "no"
Tell people what I really think
Stand up for myself or the things I believe in
Disagree (I get so scared I'll hurt or anger someone)
Return things to the store when they're faulty
...the list goes on for hours, honestly.
What would it take to get me to do/face these things?
RAGE.
When I'm boiling hot with anger, I let whoever angered me know exactly what I think. If I've looked forward to shoes I've ordered turning up and when they arrive, they are nothing like the picture and smell of cabbage - you can bet your bottom dollar I'm taking those bloody things back to the store! I lose all fear when rage is taking the wheel. Interesting.
It's frustrating for me that I have to be at my last straw before I speak up, but that's my life right now and I'm dealing with it the best I can.
I think in the last 3-5 years, I've felt comfortable enough in my friendships to tell my friends "no" when I need to, to stand up for things I believe in and to DISAGREE with people without fear of rejection. It was very, VERY hard at first - especially saying "no", but as I practice, I find that the world doesn't fall apart. The friend who asked me to babysit gets someone else and we are still friends afterwards. I'm slowly learning that it's totally okay to say "no" sometimes and that if someone doesn't respect that, then I don't really need that person in my life.
My social circle is smaller, but my bravery is bigger 🙂 I like that.
