Owning does not equate to abilty and that is what homeschoolers want you to believe that becasue they have kids, that they are qualified to teach them. The equivalent is thinking that because you own sweatpants and running sneakers that you are fit. It is not the case.
Many students these days are being homeschooled by parents and/or guardians. My question then becomes why do licenses, certificates and education exist? As a teacher I have an understanding of why but do parents and/or guardians who choose to homeschool their kids when free education by qualified educators exists? The answer is no.
There are very few intrinsic skillsets or abilities that we are born with. Breathing, peeing, pooping and crying and then long term learning skills like walking and speaking. Most babies are born with the ability to accomplish these things without much prompting. Like our first breath of air after breathing fluid for the beginning of our lives.
So what is homeschooling? It is when parents and/or guardians believe that they can do the job of professional educators better than those with the learned skill sets. It's bollocks frankly. But if we agree with homeschooling, then no homeowner should ever have to be permitted to change their home, any person with a scalpel should be legally allowed to perform surgery, and with any tool, owning it, makes you a master user.
But no, no person in their right mind would get their gallbladder removed in the bay of a garage and no person in their right mind would think that a cashier would be a good person to get investment advice from just because they touch money all day. There are and will always be prerequisites to perform certain tasks. Skills. Cleanliness. Location. Experience.
Experience is the tricky one because of what qualifies as experience. Parents believe that they have the prerequisite skills to homeschool their kids because of what their kids have learned naturally and intrinsically. Mom, dad, guardian, your kids ability to speak and walk was not because of your tutelage. It was because they are humans and would not survive without those skills. It's an evolutionary thing.
So why do parents and/or guardians want to and believe they can successfully homeschool their kids? First, they want to because then they are in control. They control the narrative that their student will learn. The student in turn will then be like-minded to their homeschoolers vision of life and the world. We call this indoctrination. It is a form of mind control. It defiles the purpose of education which is to teach and give students the ability to see the world through clear lenses so that they can make informed decisions on how they want to live their lives. Group education, private and public, provided students the access to different points of view that will challenge what they hear at home. If what they hear at home is a lie, then there will probably be conflict but liars are damned already by all, religion and people.
The other part of the homeschool lie is that parents and/or guardians who homeschool their kids believe they possess the skills to do so intrinsically. They do not and it is clear when any professional licensed educator meets a homeschooled student. There are clear and present deficits no matter how bright and successful in one part of their education they may be.
School is a workplace. A workplace is a small community. A community is a small city. A small city encompasses all. More and more Americans are being led to believe that they have the right to live outside of the city. They do not for all roads lead to the city. The community always, and I rarely use infinitives, comes first. If there is a flood or a blizzard or any other issue, all hands need to be on deck. No one can survive community catastrophes on their own. Hence, we have the police, the fire department, the national guard, the military, hospitals and schools. Without them, we would have to fend for ourselves. I don't want to have to do that. I don't want to watch my house burn because there is no fire department or death by flood or starvation because there is no one to help.
But dumb is dumb and knows no bounds. We are in the period of idiot rule. More and more citizens barely understand the concept of citizenship believing that it means that they are free to do what they want without rule or law. Homeschooling is an example of this. Students who are homeschooled miss the social and emotional learning and skills that they need to survive in a city or community. This explicitly means the ability to work and live alongside others despite differences. Without this skillset, success is unattainable without wealth and luck.
Think about your job, career or passion. Do you think we are born with these abilities or are they learned? If they are learned, does being good at it make you a good teacher? The answer is no. The ability to teach is not intrinsic to parents and/or guardians. It is a skillset that is learned over time and those that are successful at it are also successful at communicating and working with others despite their differences for differences are what make a thriving and healthy community. If everyone is the same, then we have deliberately given up what it means to be human.
