Jesus said to them, "Come and have breakfast." Now none of the disciples dared ask him, "Who are you?" They knew it was the Lord. John 21:12
This was the scripture in the devotion I'm reading by Bob Goff called Live in Grace Walk in Love. It really hit me as Mr Goff pointed out that Jesus didn't meet them with "I told you so" or chastisement. He didn't take advantage of the teachable moment, as many of us would. He simply made them breakfast and let His presents preach the sermon.
I'm that person. It is definitely a character trait that God is working with me on. I look for the lesson I can teach after running my mouth. I am quick to point out what is wrong, or that they should have listened to me. I know there is a place and a time for correction and using teachable moments, but I also know there is power in just the presence.
Despite all that had taken place, Jesus was there to serve them. He was there to be with them. His presence was His purpose in the moment. He had already appeared to them at least twice, in addition to his encounter with Mary Magdalene at the tomb. We are only given brief glances of their interactions. This one, Jesus was intentional. He helped them bring in the big haul of fish, and he fed them a meal. Possibly His way of reminding Peter that He would be a fisher of men and for all of them the importance of fellowship and service.
