The arrival of Fright Bite by Jennifer Killick was one of the highlights of the Christmas break for my son, Tom, and me. This series is a definite favourite in our house!

Fright Bite is the creepiest Dread Wood adventure yet! Once again, the members of Club Loser face their dreaded enemies, the Latchitts. These masters of genetically mutated creatures have only two things on their mind: revenge and death. Angelo, Colette, Naira, Hallie and the ever-charming Gus are pushed to the limit as they choose to sacrifice themselves for the sake of their friends.

The evening begins innocently enough. Good old Mr C is taking the gang to a fantastic entertainment venue for Colette's birthday party. They can't wait to try the race cars, eat loads of food and challenge themselves in the escape room - perhaps not the best idea after everything they've been through. Shadows of unknown people, creatures crawling over their feet and the haunting tune of a nursery rhymes tells them all they need to know - the Latchitts are back!

Fright Bite is a book that drags readers through a whole range of emotions - excitement, laugh-out-loud humour, absolute anxiety and heart-stopping fear. The strength of Club Loser's friendship is put to the test as they face jaw-dropping surprises and incredible intensity. This is a story you can't put down! Despite being quite self-contained with just the five main characters trapped in this nightmare, the fear ramps up as they come to realise they aren't the only ones in danger.

References to Taylor Swift, Gus's one-of-a-kind personality, the sweetness of Angelo and Colette's bond and the cringeworthy comments of Mr C (who really is the GOAT) add to the unique humour and charm that makes this series so brilliant! We can't wait for the next instalment - it can't come soon enough! We're already trying to predict who will make an appearance and just how evil the Latchitts can actually be!
