Daily Bible Reading: Exodus 21-22, Matthew 19

Exodus 21:1-3 (ESV) "Now these are the rules that you shall set before them. When you buy a Hebrew slave, he shall serve six years, and in the seventh, he shall go out free, for nothing. If he comes in single, he shall go out single; if he comes in married, then his wife shall go out with him.

Exodus 22:21-24 (ESV) "You shall not wrong a sojourner or oppress him, for you were sojourners in the land of Egypt. You shall not mistreat any widow or fatherless child. If you do mistreat them, and they cry out to me, I will surely hear their cry, and my wrath will burn, and I will kill you with the sword, and your wives shall become widows and your children fatherless.

Matthew 19:16-22 (ESV) (Mark 10:17-30, Luke 18:18-30, Luke 10:25-28) And behold, a man came up to him, saying, "Teacher, what good deed must I do to have eternal life?" And he said to him, "Why do you ask me about what is good? There is only one who is good. (Lev 18:5, Neh 9:29, Ezek 20:11,13,21, Rom 10:5, Gal 3:12) If you would enter life, keep the commandments." He said to him, "Which ones?" And Jesus said, "You shall not murder, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness, Honor your father and mother, and, You shall love your neighbor as yourself." The young man said to him, "All these I have kept. What do I still lack?" Jesus said to him, "If you would be perfect, go, (Luke 12:33, 16:9, 19:8, Acts 2:45, 4:34,35, 1Tim 6:18,19) sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me." When the young man heard this, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.
