He only is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress; I shall not be shaken. Psalm 62:6
I think about these words used in the passage to describe the characteristics of God.
- Rock,
- salvation,
- fortress.
These are pretty descriptive words. We were walking this weekend, I preferred climbing with the help of the rocks rather than my husband's hand or the walking stick which we bought. I also felt more secure when my feet were on the solid rocks rather than on the other surfaces. Rocks are solid, even small rocks are not easily broken.
Salvation is complete in Christ. Regardless of what I face in this life, my soul is saved. Salvation cannot be taken back, He has already delivered me.
Then fortress, when I was in Puerto Rico we walked around the Castillo San Felipe del Morro in San Juan. Fortress meant to protect the island from invaders. Massive. And I chose to walk around it not realizing how big it actually was. To the family was out in the sun. Thinking we're almost around it but each turn we took led to another. We finally sent them ahead for lunch. It was great walking along the ocean, which surrounded most sides of the fortress. It was protection, safety, security that is what is found in a fortress.
God provides us the stability of a rock, a firm foundation. God provides deliverance from our sins in salvation. He provides safety, security and protection. These are all things people need at a basic level and God gives us all of them.
Lord, thank You for being a solid rock on which I stand. Thank You for being a firm foundation of safety and stability. Thank You for being security and deliverance and protection. It is because of these things found in You that I will not be shaken.
