TOPIC: BE FEARLESS, RESPOND IN FAITH
TEXT: 2KINGS 18:19
Then the Assyrian king's chief of staff told them to give this message to Hezekiah: "This is what the great king of Assyria says: What are you trusting in that makes you so confident? NLT
King Hezekiah is one of the King who ruled Israel and had the record of a smooth and pleasant walk with the Lord (2Kings 18:1-7). We can refer to him as one who has faith in God. We have earlier learned from his prayer against God's message of death towards him. And by his strong desire to live, his prayer was granted.
However, before this, King Hezekiah experienced a deep threat and opposition from the tyrant, King of Assyrian, known as Sennacherib. In his fearful state, having known how dangerous and fierce this King was, he tried to walk by his rules and gave him all the silver in the land and all that was used as ornaments in the house of God (2Kings 18:13-16). But, King Sennacherib was not satisfied, he came back to ask for more with the intention of turning the land of Israel into his subjects.
In this situation, King Hezekiah refused to bend to his rules and the King, Sennacherib was angry; he sent three of his trusted men to him. One of them was known as Rabshakeh, he was the one who demanded to know what the King Hezekiah trusted in, so much that he refused to obey the demand of their King, Sennacherib.
Fear destroys the power of faith. Hezekaih was fearful at first, instead of running to God and walking by faith, he danced to the tune of the King of Assyrian not knowing that the enemy won't get satisfied, until he take all. You give him a mile, he takes ten. Alas! The King of Assyrian came back to make more demands. Hezekiah repented of his misdeed and decided to stand in faith with God against the fearful and boastful words of the king of Assyrian.
You have got to exercise faith against fear, if not, the situation will be magnified beyond what it is. Your fearful heart will exaggerate the situation and make it seem like the end of the world. Hezekiah, stood his ground and refused to respond to all the threats of Sennacherib with his men. Therefore, in the midst of a challenging situation, to exercise faith, you might need to turn a blind eye to the challenge and assume it doesn't exist, while you turn an open eye to God's words and stand on it as your victory. Faith says all is well, Fear says, all will end. Choose wisely!
PRAYER
Thank you, Father. For you are with me, never to leave me or forsake me. I will pass through the fire, the flame shall not burn me, I will walk through the river, the water shall not overwhelm me, for you are with me to deliver me from all my fears. I choose faith over fear, now and always in Jesus' name. Amen
