As we all know life can be a little of both. I'm on a mission this year to reduce the damage on my bodies joints and reduce inflammation as much as possible. I'm pulling out all of the stops and throwing all of the modalities that have helped me recover from one ailment or another in the past starting with acupuncture.
Yesterday, I felt like a pin cushion with 25 plus needles on the back of my body and front of my body. This is the most I've ever had at one time. Being my issue is osteoarthritis in my hips and bone spurs, she even did one in each groin. Ignore the barnacles on my back and unshaved legs. Research shows bone spurs cannot go away, nor do they always create a problem but I've never been one to believe research and am approaching this to see how I might reverse some of the wear and tear and give body some relief.
I kept waiting for my flower and tea to welcome me but alas, there was none. I did send her this poem so maybe next week she will greet me with both. There is relatively no pain with these small needles with her skill of 30 years of treating patients, except in my stomach. The reason..., loose skin.... thanks to those 4 children. Thank goodness they were all worth it!
When I was pregnant with my first child I developed pregnancy induced asthma. I'd never heard of it before but it figures as I'm often the 1 percent. I had my aerobic studio with 15 instructors and I was personally teaching 4 classes a day. It became so bad, I had to stop teaching altogether and had to have staff take my classes over. It got so bad I couldn't walk up even a few stairs, cold would exasperate it and I had to force myself not to cry for fear of not being able to breath. I would sit waiting for my husband to come home frozen in fear.
I was terrified to do any of my holistic modalities or take any allopathic medicines for fear of "hurting the baby". Finally at 7 months of pregnancy when I couldn't stand it anymore, I saw my homeopath, chiropractor and acupuncturist and in one week I was better and back to teaching classes.
The bodies resilience can be miraculous. The good news is I healed. The bad news is I hadn't a clue from which modality. I won't know again being I'm throwing everything at my body but I don't care. I plan to keep all of them in rotation after double dosing on all of them at the moment.
I have appointments with 2 surgeon's to get an assessment, a chiropractor, body work and I'm on an anti inflammatory diet with supplements as well.
What is acupuncture?
Good Question!
Acupuncture is the practice of penetrating the skin with thin, solid, metallic needles which are then activated through gentle and specific movements of the practitioner's hands or with electrical stimulation.
Acupuncture is part of the ancient practice of Traditional Chinese medicine. Traditional Chinese medicine practitioners believe the human body has more than 2,000 acupuncture points connected by pathways or meridians. These pathways create an energy flow (Qi, pronounced "chee") through the body that is responsible for overall health. Disruption of the energy flow can cause disease. By applying acupuncture to certain points, it is thought to improve the flow of Qi, thereby improving health.
Studies have shown that acupuncture is effective for a variety of conditions.
Acupuncture points are believed to stimulate the central nervous system. This, in turn, releases chemicals into the muscles, spinal cord, and brain. These biochemical changes may stimulate the body's natural healing abilities and promote physical and emotional well-being.
National Institutes of Health (NIH) studies have shown that acupuncture is an effective treatment alone or in combination with conventional therapies to treat the following:
Nausea caused by surgical anesthesia and cancer chemotherapy
Dental pain after surgery
Addiction
Headaches
Menstrual cramps
Tennis elbow
Fibromyalgia
Myofascial pain
Osteoarthritis
Low back pain
Carpal tunnel syndrome
Asthma
It may also help with stroke rehabilitation.
What conditions may benefit from acupuncture?
Many Americans seek acupuncture treatment for relief of chronic pain, such as arthritis or low back pain. Acupuncture, however, has expanded uses in other parts of the world. Before considering acupuncture, talk to your doctor. Conditions that may benefit from acupuncture include the following:
I have to say I did feel very relaxed last night and woke up with a little more mobility and less pain.
I'm considering putting my trainer hat on a doing a series on Overuse Syndrome, Over stretching, Joint load, Chiropractic, Homeopathy, posture and ergonomics on Mondays with tips on how to avoid injuries to help you avoid some of the pitfalls I have fallen into.
The truth is no matter how mindful we are, we will develop some issues in our bodies if we're lucky enough to reach the golden years. However, if we truly stay mindful we can avoid or minimize some of the wear and tear.
When you are in my business, there is a tendency to watch out for everyones needs and put yours in the foreground as much as you think you are being self observant . Let me know if you would find these topics helpful or not or if there are others you might like to address.
Have a great weekend and may you have more tea and flowers than pricks this weekend.
