Luke 21:1-4 NLT – [1] While Jesus was in the Temple, he watched the rich people dropping their gifts in the collection box. [2] Then a poor widow came by and dropped in two small coins. [3] "I tell you the truth," Jesus said, "this poor widow has given more than all the rest of them. [4] For they have given a tiny part of their surplus, but she, poor as she is, has given everything she has."
It's that time of the year, and we are all hustling to find presents to buy for our friends and loved ones. My grandkids are old enough now that it is easy. Cash is king. Just an envelope with a green back, and I am a hero.
Regardless, I still like to buy real surprise items for my family and friends. But why? I realize I want to express how much I care about and love them.
When I initially read today's scripture, I thought of the same message I usually think of. This widow's story was that she wanted to give all she had to God. Not just a gift that was acceptable or appropriate. But the more I pondered her actions, I felt a deeper message. She was not just giving all she had. She was expressing her love for God that was without limit from her heart.

Today, giving to God is not because He needs your money. Neither is it because He demands your obedience. It is deeper than the above. It is for you that you give. It is a representation of the same expression of love Christ has given to you. The example that your love is so overwhelming that you are willing to give all, just as Jesus has given to you.
Today, recognize that being obedient in your gifts is good. Giving through your heart is even better.
Stay healthy and have a blessed day!
