GLEN ARBOR — Leelanau County residents may be familiar with The Mill in Glen Arbor.
The historic grist mill reopened as a café in April, and lodging opened in July.
General Manager Corey Smith said they are still undergoing renovations to the restaurant space on the lower level. This will seat about 30 people.
In the meantime, they are offering Supper Club events in that space.
"We want to be able to practice with the kitchen downstairs," Smith said. "It gives everyone an opportunity to dine with us during the evening hours."
Guests can "share a homecooked meal" that emphasizes locally-sourced items, he said.
"It's really important for us to be sustainable in our food practice," he said. "The restaurant is an added component that Glen Arbor needs."
Smith said they have 12 events from October to December and might add a few dinners from January through March. People can buy a ticket and enjoy a meal with family and friends.
Chef Bobby Thoits said they want to highlight unique ways of eating and educate people about ingredients in their own backyards with the Supper Club dinners.
"We're trying to help introduce some different techniques and ingredients," he said.
He and his sous chef selected dishes they enjoy making and that they grew up eating. The October dinners, Thoits said, included Korean barbecue and Moroccan meals. In December, guests can find poached fish and pork on the menu. Thoits said sauces, sides, salads and dessert are included.
"We're doing it family style," he said. "It's all geared toward two people. Choose your own adventure as you're building your plate."
The Mill is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday through Monday. The Supper Club is $75 per person and includes cocktails, appetizers, dinner and dessert.
