Passage - "Therefore, since we have received an unshakeable Kingdom, let us have grace, through which we may offer service that will please God, with reverence and fear." Hebrews 12:28
Restate in your own words - since we have received gods and shakable kingdom, we should have grace to serve, through labor, and church, and through worship, that is pleasing to God, and reverence and fear.
Application to life - in the footnotes there is a note that "avodah" means to work, labor, or give service. But it also means the sacrificial service in the temple. It is a common word for worship.
I love to serve. For some reason, I have found myself backing up from serving at church, and in the community. Other than at work and to my family, I feel like that is where God has told me to focus my attention, and that His grace has given me that ability to serve.
I like to involve myself in so many community acts of service that through the years I have neglected that service to those closest to me. I saw that as a burden and the service at church and community as an honor. But when my mom got sick and ended up in the nursing home, I realized how much I missed out on with my husband and children. With my grandmother's passing that was reaffirmed with my family in general.
They are the first area where God gave me grace to serve. I am blessed to be able to work in a ministry where I can serve a lot of people each day. My coworkers, my patients, their families, my community, and God; being His hands and feet at work certainly is done from a kingdom mindset. I serve out of the grace God has given to me, extend to others. While I am not perfect most of the time my service comes from that mindset in my heart. I need to get that same mindset to serving my family.
Your response back to God - God, service doesn't always look like I think it should. At times, it is done full of love and grace that You have given me. For those times I thank You for the honor. Other times my focus gets on me and I feel the weight of that service, for those times, forgive me. I ask for Your wisdom in knowing when to serve in church and the community and when to say "no" because my service to my family is a priority. It is such a balance to me. Thank You for the opportunity to serve Your kingdom. In Jesus name. Amen.
