The Saint Lucia Boxing Association is pleased to announce that Light Welterweight Boxer Herve Charlemagne secured the bronze medal at the "6th Central American and Caribbean School Sports Games", held in Venezuela from November 22-30, 2023 in Venezuela.
This is the first international medal in the sport of boxing for Saint Lucia.
The President of the Saint Lucia Boxing Association David "Shakes" Christopher in congratulating the young athlete said the recent success strengthens the platform for further development of the sport.
Christopher said " As the Boxing Association we invest a lot of time, energy and resources provided by partners such as The Olympic Committee and the National Lotteries Authority in the sport, so when boxers like Herve Charlemagne excel how he recently did in Venezuela, this shows the investments we are making are worthwhile, so I really want to congratulate him on winning the Bronze Medal at CAC, this auger well for the sport".
Charlemagne fought in the 63kg Light Welterweight Category and defeated Cuban Yeison Pamias. He was accompanied by National Coach Yunior Quintero Perez.
Coach Perez observed "as a young boxer Herve has good technique and promise". He is definitely an athlete to watch", he added.
The Saint Lucia Boxing Association expresses immense thanks to the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports for affording the team the opportunity to represent Saint Lucia at the Games.
