Saint Lucia, which is currently promoting its tourism in South America, looks forward to a direct flight from Caracas.
"We have a team right now in South America doing promotions, trying to open up South America. We will be launching very soon a direct flight from Caracas," Tourism Minister Dr. Ernest Hilaire disclosed.
Hilaire told reporters that the flight would pick up passengers in Brazil, Columbia, and Panama.
He spoke on Friday on the sidelines of a sitting of the House of Assembly.
Hilaire said the Saint Lucia government was very thankful to Venezuela and its Embassy in Castries.
Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre recently visited Venezuela for wide-ranging talks.
In addition to promoting tourism in South America, Hilaire told reporters that work continues on security, including reintroducing the Rangers Programme.
"A few years ago, the rangers unit provided extra support in areas that are visited by guests," the Minister recalled.
Hilaire also said the Hospitality Ambassadors programme, which revamps the former Tourism Hostess initiative, will commence on Monday.
The Ambassadors programme aims to ensure that competent individuals are available to provide direction to visitors, give them information, and make recommendations, forging a link between the Ministry of Tourism and the visitor.
Initially, the Ambassadors will operate in major tourist areas, including Castries, Gros Islet, and Soufriere.
The initiative aims to provide cruise visitor satisfaction and position Saint Lucia as one of the leading cruise tourism destinations.
Apart from their initial two-week intensive training, the Ministry of Tourism plans to teach the Ambassadors foreign languages and take them on overseas familiarisation trips as part of their continuing instruction.
