Spoiler/tip for an Assassin's Creed: Mirage quest

Butch:

I'm not even out of pie and Mrs. McP has me decking the fucking halls.  Life is unfair.

OK, I miss something?  Yesterday, got the last of the shards (you're right, man, that armor...Voltron walks the streets unnoticed), got the totally subtle armor, it goes "case closed" and that's that.  What bothers me is that there were two "clue undiscovered" thingys when I got the armor that, apparently, shall remain a mystery.  I don't want a mystery!  I was expecting bananas!  Where were the bananas?  Did I MISS THE BANANAS????

I also did a lot of stupid.

Went after the governor.  Took maybe 92 tries to follow the messenger.  Got a trophy for "Pass time at a bench whatever times" while I was trying which was just insulting.  Decided to go into the building there on the roof.  Got the chest, but you can't get in from the roof.  It only took me forever to find this out.

Finally went in the correct way.  Got to the office and....the game wouldn't progress.  I looked at the desk, the map, the poetry....and nothing.  Wouldn't.  Progress.

Reloaded. Did the whole "get to the office bit again."

Same thing.

I reloaded and got from the door to the office FIVE TIMES.

I panicked.  "Is this a game breaking bug?" Thought I, "NOW????"  I googled "Judge and Executioner: Mirage Bug" and found a reddit thread where someone had EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM I DID!!!!

And was kindly told that there is a fourth thing to find.

Reloaded and, what do you know, there was a fourth thing to find.

Six times.  I did it six times.

There was a fourth thing to find.

Couldn't decide if I was pissed off, relieved or both.  Both, probably.

That's what I did.

Did I miss something??? Other than the fourth thing to find?

I gotta go buy Christmas lights.

[later]

And I played more!

I'm up to raiding the palace to get the head of the serpent who is the concubine there.  I'm wondering how she joined the order.  The Order recruits in harems?  I'm not following.  I must've missed something.

You were almost right about the poet!  She WAS Order!  I don't think we've seen anyone who used to be Order before, have we?  Or any former assassins.  This game is making that whole dynamic more complex and I like it.

Speaking of harems, that harem level, where it turns out you've been played the whole time, was pretty fucking great.  I didn't see it coming either.  I totally got played.   Her last "Nice outfit.  It suits you," after getting played was cruel, man.  Cruel.   Very well done level that totally got me.

I also solved another enigma and got another useless cosmetic talisman. The could've made those more rewarding.

Feminina:

All right!

Much to comment upon. I also took about 30 tries to follow that spy, and racked up a ton of time passed sitting on a bench waiting for him to come around again. He sure was suspicious. Which I suppose means he's good at his job.

I also had the issue with thinking I was all done in the office and then irritably stomping around (I left to go kill some guards, then came back) and then sheepishly noticing that...oh...there's another thing over there in that other corner...

Silly us.

And I also kind of loved that bit with Makira. Well played. I totally didn't suspect her, although I was kind of rolling my eyes like "makeup and 'potion,' obviously all someone would be interested in in a harem, nice subtle characterization, game"--and then zing! That was ice cold, using me to murder and frame Qabiha's rivals like that. I tip my fetching eunuch's hat to you.

Butch:

Sidenote! I see that Larian IS putting out a physical PS5 baldur's Gate 3!  But it's not out yet, and it's a deluxe edition we have to order straight from them.  It's only ten bucks more, though.

https://www.polygon.com/23964100/baldurs-gate-3-deluxe-physical-edition-release-date-price

Feminina:

I am totally into getting BG3 on discs! Precious physical objects to hold and cherish! Except that does mean waiting even longer.

Butch:

The delay is a conundrum, that it is.

Phantom Liberty?  That might be fun.

I'll pre-order BG3 when you do, if you do.

That hat was rather fetching.  I considered wearing that outfit just because.  Who would suspect me of anything?  But then, I figured he'd have to explain shit to Roshan and Nehal, like, why was Voltron a eunuch?

Did I miss bananas in that cave?  Or is there more to come with that cave and Nehal?

It did say "case closed."

By the way, I've been meaning to mention, doesn't "investigations" and "case closed" read a little TV detective procedural to you?  "Boom! Case closed!" across the screen just seems more gritty New York cop thing more than, you know, Assassin's Creed.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who messed up those bits.  We're in this together.  Well, we're with that other dude on reddit who also missed that thing.

Is the palace bit time consuming?  I have to plan around hockey.

Feminina:

I do like discs. And honestly, in the forthcoming chaos of the holidays, would we really get to focus on BG3 as it deserves? I'm willing to wait.

I...might have started wandering around in Ghostwire: Tokyo, because it was already in my house. It's pretty interesting (supposed to be about 20 hours, so say 30 for us), but if you're not wild about it, I can likely wrap it up sometime in the holiday chaos and there may well be time for Phantom Liberty too.

The palace is not that bad.

Butch:

I'll give it a go!  You like it?  If you dig it, I'll likely dig it.

I'm close to the end of this, right?  Might as well order something?  I'm not so far away that you'll finish Ghostwire before I finish ACM?  Or have you almost finished it.

And shall we pre-order BG3?

Feminina:

I'm kind of digging it. It's not particularly novel in terms of mechanics (which is fine, it doesn't take too long to learn), but the setting is interesting, and the bad guys are very creepy. Some fun elements of Japanese mythical creatures and stuff. I'm unlikely to finish it before you finish Mirage -- you're almost there.

As for the question about bananas and that cavern with the shards...if you missed it, so did I. I think it was just...a cavern with some extremely tasteful and understated artifacts some Isu left there? Kind of like the cave where we found Excalibur in Valhalla, I guess. Not really a story there.

Let's pre-order BG3 discs!

Butch:

Man...those two undiscovered clues will haunt me.

OK!  Ordering Ghostwire.  Pre-ordering BG3!

It's on!

Feminina:

It. Is. On.

Preordered BG3. "All the feelies for your mantelpiece," ha.

Butch:

Dang, you even paid 100 bucks for a game.

You must LOVE discs.

Done and done.  Downloading and ordered.

It's like Christmas early!

"Our imps are putting it together and will teleport it to you as soon as it's ready."

I kind of love this studio.

Feminina:

Yeah, these are the extra touches that made me say "OK, I will pay this rather higher price to support your quirkiness, Larian."

Because it is a bit high! But we deserve it -- it'll be our Christmas present to ourselves (and in my case also to Mr. O'). We're gonna love it.

It's still going to be an extremely low price per hour of entertainment we get out of it. It's not like we're expecting to play this for a mere 20-30 hours and move on.

Butch:

Oh no.  This will take quite some time.

We have to get everyone to LOOOOOOOOOOVEEEEEE UUUUUUUSSSSSS!

We deserve it!   I haven't bought something nice for myself in quite some time.

Feminina:

We're willing to do what it takes. Put in the work of building those relationships. Making sure that our charm and awesomeness are loved by all.

Unless some of our companions make other companions think less of us, in which case I suppose we can't be loved by all at the same time. It's going to be complicated!

But again, we're willing to put in the work.

Butch:

We're so excited for this game and yet we keep not playing it.

I don't get us.

Feminina:

It is kind of funny. "This game is going to be so awesome! We're (seriously) going to love it! It's going to be the best! Yeah, I can wait another few months to play it, no problem..."

Butch:

Speaks to how many good games are out there!

But it is kinda funny.  "This is the game we've been waiting for since Dragon Age!  Like, ten years!  It can wait."

Feminina:

Enh...after 10 years, what's another year? We're good at waiting at this point!

Butch:

Watch though: One of us will get it, and we'll be all "We'll wait for our blogmate," and then the other won't get it for weeks.

Feminina:

Nooooooooo!!!!!!!!! What an entertaining mess that would be.

Then we'd start something else while waiting for the second person's copy to arrive, and then immediately after we got really invested in that, it would show up...and then someone wouldn't be able to locate their disc once we were done with the other thing...

Three years from now, we could still be trying to get around to playing it, while constantly talking about how great it's going to be.

Butch:

And then we'd likely have a PS6 or PS7 and we'd be all "Well, we've waited this long.  I'm sure there will be a remaster.  Might as well wait for the best experience."

Feminina:

There's BOUND to be a remaster! And it's going to be AMAZING on PS7. Why settle for anything less, really?

Butch:

Now I just feel silly for preordering the clearly inferior PS5 version.

Feminina:

It's just a way for us to encourage Larian to get working on BG4, which will probably be out in 2047.

Just in time for us to wonder whether we can finish playing 3 in time to get it at launch.

Spoiler: we cannot.

Butch:

And, even if we do, I'll likely say "You know, we never got around to BG2....one of my all time favorites...I think you'd like it...."

Feminina:

"Hey, let's play that while we wait for the discs to be ready! Can't take us more than, I don't know, 6 weeks or so, right?"

Wait, SHOULD we play that while we wait for the discs to be ready? Can't take us more than...oh...3 years, right?

Butch:

"Might as well.  Ghostwire Tokyo has been downloading for 24 years and is still at 32%...."

Don't even joke, though.

We'd get the discs and be all "Eh.  We need a break from BG.  What else is out?"

Feminina:

You're right, we absolutely would.

We can still play 2 later. Maybe there'll be a slow period sometime next year. Or the year after.

Butch:

It ain't going anywhere.

So many games to play.....
