Since last Friday, the Israel-Hamas truce held. No fighting in Gaza since the last Friday. Instead, hostages and prisoners exchanges were taking place. Also aid convoy was pouring into the area. Six brief days but a dramatic night and day difference.
But the truce ends tonight.
Will it be extended? The Israelis say one day for every ten hostages released. So far more than 100 have been released in the past 6 days. And yet more than 140 remain captive by Hamas. Simple math indicates perhaps two more weeks?
But life is never simple. Many actors, international mediators included, are working feverishly as I write this post. Will there be an extension? I hope so. But deep down, what would be the end state? Resume fighting? Nobody knows.
Surely, both sides are counting fingers, sharpening pencils, and calculating advantages. I guess we will find out in the morning.
What kind of end state do you envision?
