| Janelle Nov 24 | - Where have you lately found satisfaction? My family and friends, the life I've built in general.
- When have you let someone off the hook, or when have you been let off the hook? My three-year-old son took a green crayon to our white headboard while I was making lunch. He watched while I cleaned it and I explained why that's not okay to do, but I didn't actually punish him for it because I honestly don't think he considered the fact that he shouldn't do it and it wasn't a hugely serious thing.
- When were you recently in a social situation where finding something to talk about was a challenge? I sometimes struggle with extended family, but I've managed lately. I can always just use it as an excuse to talk about my kid.
- To what (or to whom) are you getting closer? Katie, my husband's brother's wife. We started dating our respective husbands around the same time, so we've known each other a long time, but now that we have kids close in age, we get them together for playdates almost weekly. So we spend a good bit of time together, but we're also in similar places in life, since we're also both stay-at-home moms. We've always commiserated with each other about our in-laws, but she's quickly turning into one of those people where if something happens, I think, "I have got to tell Katie this." Also! She was one of the first people I told when I thought I was pregnant with my son--she was already pregnant at the time, so we had support from each other, plus I knew she'd be excited.
- What in your life these days might you call a money monster? My toddler! Actually, our cat Sarge is probably worse at the moment--he's prone to urinary issues, so he's on special food for it, which is expensive. And then if it flares up, he's off to the vet, which usually runs around 100 bucks for them to give him a checkup and meds, and if he's really blocked, he has to go to an emergency vet, and the last (and so far, only, fortunately, knock on wood) time he had to do that, he had to stay overnight and they required like a $1,500 deposit per night. We got some of it back, at least, but it was right after COVID stimulus checks went out, so...bye-bye stimulus check.
