Dear daughter,
Many things in my life are moving away from me and my memory. Like smoke from a fire that the wind blows away.
One thing that has never left my mind or my heart is the day I first cast my eyes upon you. It was a tough day for your mom, for sure. She had to be brave and strong to bring you into this world. I stared in amazement as you took your first breath. You were so tiny that I could hold you in the palm of my hand.
There. There you were.
You and I have seen the very best of one another and the very worst of one another as well. And…
Here. Here we are.
Happy Birthday, dear Scout.
Your birth changed my life forever.
Your life is – now - today one of my most precious gifts.
Life is hard, yes. Sometimes harder than we think we can stand. But as you know, it is beautiful as well. It is not on the mountaintop that we grow. It is in the valley where our greatest growth takes place.
I love you with all of my heart.
God has great plans for you.
Live hard. Love harder...
Dad
