Having witnessed the immature actions of the previous president, we need leadership not tantrums. The state of Florida was hit by a hurricane and some people and/ or their property were harmed. Yet, the Florida governor did not want to meet with the president of the United States who is there offering citizens help. Really?
I am reminded of 2012 presidential candidate Mitt Romney chastising then New Jersey governor Chris Christie for meeting with President Barack Obama in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. Christie rightfully said Obama is helping us, so let's keep our eye on the ball. Romney wanted to come, but Christie said I don't have time for a photo shoot. Apparently, Ron DeSantis is following a different playbook than Christie.
Call me crazy, but elected officials are there to govern, not posture and not to pitch fits. We need leaders, not tantrums. To me it truly matters not who gets credit, good ideas and good enough ideas need to get implemented, especially when people are in need. As Christie told Romney, we need to to keep our eye on the ball. Mr. DeSantis, you need to follow the then NJ governor's lead and work with the president, whether he is blue, red, purple or green. Your citizens are counting on you.
Note: Republican Senator Rick Scott, who has been at odds with DeSantis, did appear with Biden thanking him for his help and complimenting his FEMA leadership.
