As we look forward to the start of autumn with the nights drawing in and the leaves beginning to change here are some suggestions. Peter Morrell gets a taste

Enjoy this crisp white wine made from Chardonnay grapes full of fruity peach flavours. Casa Maña means 'the home of knowing our craft' and they certainly know their wine which is perfect with seafood or lighter dishes.
These aromatic Riesling grapes are hand picked from the extremely steep slopes on the edge of the Mosel River and are grown by a group of quality driven winemakers called 'Das Blaue Band' (the blue band referencing the Mosel river). This is a dry style of Riesling to show off the bright elegance and balance of steely minerality and delicate flavours of orchard fruit; lovely with Sushi or creamy cheeses.
This fresh and modern style white Rioja is made from Viura and Tempranillo Blanco grapes and matured on fine lees by the award winning Barón de Ley. A generous palate of floral and exotic fruit flavours finishes with a subtle hint of spice. Pairs with: Roast chicken, seafood paella or Spanish style salads
In 1954 the mayor of Châteauneuf-du-Pape was quite perturbed and apprehensive that UFOs or "flying cigars" might do damage to their vineyards. So, right-thinking men all, they passed a legal ordinance prohibiting such landings. The ordinance has worked well, as there have been no such landings since the adoption of this far-sighted legislation.
Bathed by the Mediterranean climate, where the sea and mountains meet, Vista Castelli is a bold, full bodied wine from Abruzzo, Central Italy. With flavours of black cherries, blackberries and spice, this concentrated and complex red wine is perfect to enjoy with grilled mushrooms or slow roasts.
Peter Morrell, Editor comments, "In an earlier life my IT business took me around the world, and from each trip I returned with a fond culinary memory. I worked in Tours and was introduced by my oenophile French host to St Nicolas de Bourgueil wine, it had a uniqueness that I will always remember. This wine is not widely available in the UK, so it's pleasing to see it stocked at Tesco.
"Les Terrasses St Nicolas de Bourgueil wine is made with the Cabernet Franc grape, which thrives in the soil of the area it's grown, about an hour's drive to the East of Tours. The wine pours a dark garnet colour. There are a lot of fruit aromas in the bouquet including cherries, raspberries, blackcurrents, and dried fruit all laced through with hints of floral violets.
"The wines sits between medium and full bodied. As it moves to the palate these fruit flavours remain, and are joined by an earthiness which makes this wine so unique, and gives it depth. The tannins are muted but the wine is pleasantly dry, which, combined with a touch of acidity, makes it ideal to drink with food.
"The finish is fruity and persistent, with a suggestion of smokiness. This wine, which rekindled a very fond memory, pairs well with roast lamb and barbequed meats."
In the Leyda Valley, with its cooling ocean breezes, our Pinot Noir grapes ripen slowly. They develop intense berry fruit characters whilst retaining all their natural acidity and freshness. The resulting wine was aged in French oak barriques to considerably increase its complexity and texture.
Deliciously supple, with ripe, smoky fruit flavours balanced by refreshing acidity, this is a versatile partner for most poultry and meat dishes, as well as grilled salmon.
During every vintage on the Viña Luis Felipe Edwards estate, grapes from the best areas are vinified separately under the personal supervision of the Head Winemaker. These wines are always included in the family's private cellars and reserved for special occasions.
Great Cabernet should be both perfumed and poised, and meticulous site selection is critical to capturing these key attributes. The Cabernet Sauvignon sourced for this wine is grown in the area's northern sub regions. Characterised by blackberry, cassis and dried herb flavour, this wine has added complexity from 18 months maturation in French oak barriques.
The Howard Park regional range uses premium fruit, grown where there is maximum potential to express the best of the variety.
