Whenever I think of teachers, I can easily recall the distinctive attributes and eloquent utterances of some of the myriad teachers who have taught me during my educational journey, spanning schools, colleges, and universities.
There was an ingenious maths teacher, who had given us trigonometry formulae, artfully encapsulated within verses to facilitate memorisation. Taking a cue from him, the chemistry teacher gave a mnemonic chant to memorise the elements of the Periodic Table.
A physics teacher, who had written a book on the subject, used to compel us to encourage our attendance at his tutorial classes that were quite helpful in practical examinations.
A social science teacher carried his umbrella at all times with the slogan, "Do not smoke, it is injurious to health." We used to call him Gandhiji.
I once cut my finger while dissecting a frog because it unexpectedly jumped out of the tray. My zoology teacher whispered in my ear as he wrapped a bandage around my finger, "Biology is not your cup of tea, my friend."
One of Hindi teachers used to see romance even in devotional poems. His interpretations would impress and excite all of us for more reasons than one. His classes were the most liked ones.
There was a lecturer in Geophysics, who brought his notes on strange, coloured and wrinkled sheets of different sizes and shapes, but he was very spontaneous when referencing them.
One of my inorganic chemistry teacher used to start his lecture simultaneously writing the points on the black board. When we asked questions, his simple answer was, "I'm coming to that point." But at the end of his lecture, we didn't have any questions to ask.
Today on the occasion of Happy Teachers Day, I salute all the teachers, who enlightened my life in their own unique ways. My gratitude towards him cannot be expressed in words.
Teachers Day (also known as SHIKSHAK DIWAS in Hindi) is celebrated in India annually on September 5, 2023, to mark the centennial of the birth of the illustrious scholar, philosopher, and teacher, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who served as the first Vice President of India (Jan.26, 1952- May 12, 1962) and the second President of India (May 14, 1962 to May 13, 1967). He was awarded Bharat Ratna in 1954.
This is an occasion for students to honour and pay tributes to their teachers. I salute all of them today.
As mentioned in our scriptures, mother is the first teacher. In my case, it was literally true. She single-handedly taught me at home till class four. On teachers'day, her images, words and actions automatically engulf me.
Next in line are my doting father and other relatives and siblings, friends, and spouse, apart from my esteemed teachers. When we grow old, we learn a lot from our children too.
Life itself is a great teacher. We learn something new every day till our last breath. That's why every single day is Teachers Day.
Also a big salute to my blogger friends who share their knowledge and wisdom every day for free.
HAPPY TEACHERS DAY
