During my first visit to the Philippines, back in 2007, I had my first encounter ever with a monkey (apart from those I had seen years back in the Rome Zoo).
It was somewhere in the Donya Remedios Trinidad area, in the Sierra Madre Mountains, in the province of Bulacan.
Before I visited the Philippines I had already been in relationship with my wife for 9 years, and I was already quite fluent in Tagalog. So I could basically speak 3 languages.
So, upon observing that unggoy jumping from one branch to another, and uttering nothing more than the most basic sounds, the thought that passed through my mind was about just how far superior the human ability to use language, and even learn more than one language, is, compared to the animal that we are supposed to have evolved from....
