If you're a fan of Christian fiction, you'll love this one. It's a story about friendship, love, family, forgiveness and reconciliation. Set during the years before and after WWI, it contains some interesting bits of history.
The story is centered around Rose MacNeill, a girl who is orphaned at age 12 and sent by her brother to a boarding school, Lakeside Ladies Academy. There she is befriended by three other classmates. The dub themselves "the Ladies of the Lake" and vow to continue to meet every few years after they graduate. Life, war and unexpected tragedies intervene to disrupt their plan, but in the end, relationships are renewed and restored.
This is an easy read, but the characters are well developed and believable. There is also an unexpected twist at the end of the story.
VERDICT: 5 STARS. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and will look forward to reading more by this author!
