Indian Government introduced new SIM cards rules
The Government of India has made new rules to obtain new SIM cards with an aim to make the process safe and secure. There are two circulars issued by the department of Telecommunication to regulate the use of SIM cards in the country.
The first circular's rules are applying to individual SIM card users and the other one to telecom companies such as Airtel and Jio with purpose of changing the process of selling SIM cards.
Stricter rules for selling SIM card:
Government of India has made stricter rules for stores which are selling SIM cards. Government has directed to do a background check on the people who work there.
It has also abide to fine up to 10 lakhs for each shop if they are failed to do background check.
The new rules are going to implement October 1, 2023 onwards.
Police control:
Government directed telecom companies need to undergo a police check in stores before being allowed to sell new SIM cards in certain areas like Assam, Kashmir and the northeast. This process will add extra protection.
Responsibility:
Government of India has guided all big telecommunications companies like Airtel and Jio to check the stores that sell their SIM cards.
It has also advised to them to sure that the stores follow the rules and keep things safe and secure.
Detailed verification:
After these new rules all people will go through a detailed verification process to buy a new SIM card or get a replacement.
This process to get a new SIM card is the same.
