Bureau of Trust Funds Administration
Management and Program Analyst. Virtual / Remote. Located within the Settlement Division of the Bureau of Trust Funds Administration. Serves in a senior role with broad responsibilities that include monitoring, tracking, and reporting on the BTFA Administrative Appeals Program. Coordinates case management and assignment to ensure appropriate staffing levels/skills mix and oversees Administrative Appeals Program docket calendar and tickler system to ensure regulatory and internal deadlines are met. Researches and drafts decisions in administrative appeals cases, as well as provides briefings and/or issue papers, talking points or reports. Serves as a project manager, overseeing the development of project management plans, leading records production and historical accounting, managing contractors, reviewing work products, tracking budget and expenditures, or other activities. Alaska Legal Services Corporation
Native Law Staff Attorney. Bethel or Anchorage, AK. Full-time (35 hours per week) staff attorney to provide legal services to Association of Village Council Presidents ("AVCP") member Tribes and tribal members. This position primarily involves representation of tribal clients in state child welfare proceedings, enforcing the Indian Child Welfare Act; and managing a caseload of state court child in need of aid cases. Other duties may also involve litigating other Native law matters on behalf of AVCP Tribes and tribal members. Position open until filled.

Intake Specialist. Helena or Billings MT. Montana Legal Services Association is hiring for an Intake Specialist. Responsibilities include: Answer incoming HelpLine calls and perform interviews of applicants for legal services, maintain calendars in the case management system and schedule advice appointments with MLSA advocates as appropriate, ability and willingness to work cooperatively and collegially within a decentralized statewide law firm, determine the legal needs and financial eligibility of the applicant for program services. Disaster Outreach/Intake Assistant. Billings MT. Montana Legal Services Association is hiring for a Disaster Outreach/Intake Assistant. Responsibilities include: Respectfully interview potential applicants for legal services who may be under stress of legal action, elicit factual information from applicants, analyze the type of legal problem presented to determine whether MLSA may assist, or whether a referral is appropriate, and evaluate legal need and financial eligibility of the applicant. Work with MLSA's Disaster Relief Program Coordinator and/or the Pro Bono Project Coordinator to integrate disaster legal assistance into MLSA's statewide program. Regularly connect with MLSA's Communications Manager to ensure that Disaster Outreach efforts reflect and coincide with the movement of MLSA's communications as a whole. Recruit and support volunteers across the state willing to assist with the civil legal needs of victims of disaster. Medical Legal Partnership Attorney. Missoula, Helena or Billings MT. Montana Legal Services Association is hiring two attorney positions for our Medical Legal Partnership Program. Responsibilities include: Travel to partner Community Health Centers to conduct training, hold regular office hours, and provide legal services to address patients' needs, provide orientation and training activities for Health Center partners, including how to make appropriate referrals, Interview, advise, and represent eligible clients on civil matters, develop and maintain specialized knowledge of the health-harming legal needs of patients, provide services ranging from brief counsel and advice, to more extended representation on core legal issues affecting patients in the Community Health system. A law degree and current license to practice law in Montana is preferred. We will consider applicants with the ability to waive in with a qualifying UBE score, or a willingness to take and pass the next Montana Bar Exam. Mitchell Hamline School of Law
Program Administrator - Native American Law and Sovereignty Institute. St. Paul, MN. Main duties: Provide support for all operational aspects of the NALS Institute and to the Director of the Institute, Coordinate events and conferences for NALS Institute including registration, venue, food, drum group, prayer, and guest speaker travel arrangements. Assist in recruiting Native American students to the NALS Institute specifically, and law school more generally (i.e., pathway programs), including but not limited to coordinating open houses, participating in college and law school fairs, and responding to applicant inquiries.
Lead and supervise production of a monthly media presence for NALS Institute alumni, including creative planning, compiling, and editing content on social media platforms and other informational methods, and engage in other efforts designed to connect alumni to the NALS Institute and current students. Public Defender. Agency Village, SD. It is the duty of the Public Defender to represent indigent defendants charged with crimes within the boundaries of the Lake Traverse Reservation. The licensed attorney should have experience in criminal defense, filing pretrial motions, representing their client at all stages of the proceeding, and conducting bench and jury trials. This individual will assist with representing parents in all juvenile cases, including but not limited to, child abuse, neglect, dependency, and unruly and delinquent cases. The applicant may be needed to assist with Indian Child Welfare Act cases, and should be able to understand motions to intervene and/or transfer from State Court ICWA proceedings. New Mexico Legal Aid
Director - Native American Program. Santa Ana, NM. New Mexico Legal Aid is seeking a Director for its Native American Program. The Native American Program (NAP) provides free legal services to low-income Native Americans living on or near the nineteen (19) Pueblos, and outreach and community education to the community of the Mescalero Apache Nation. Pine Tree Legal Assistance
Staff Attorney. Bangor, ME. Pine Tree Legal Assistance, Inc. is seeking a staff attorney for its Indigenous Peoples Unit. This is primarily a litigation position, and the attorney will be in court or appearing in administrative proceedings on a regular basis for low-income tribal members. Most cases are in the Passamaquoddy Tribal Courts and the Penobscot Nation Tribal Court. The attorney will also be responsible for creating client education materials, coordinating with tribal community partners, and performing outreach across the five Wabanaki tribal communities. Experience working with tribes and tribal members is strongly preferred. Position is open until filled.
California Indian Legal Services
Executive Coordinator. Sacramento, CA. The Executive Coordinator to the Executive Director is a highly visible position at CILS requiring interaction with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders and playing a key role in the fulfillment of our mission. This position provides overall administrative and project support to the Executive Director and serves as a key liaison to the Board of Trustees. The Executive Coordinator also has extensive interaction with other staff and community stakeholders. Professionalism, the ability to cultivate relationships, and flexibility to adapt to the changing needs and priorities of a growing organization are essential. Staff Attorney. Eureka Field Office but the option of fully remote is considered for CA residents only. Supervised by the Directing Attorney, the Staff Attorney will work collaboratively with other staff to provide exceptional legal services in all areas of Federal Indian law. Our fast-paced office provides legal services on issues of jurisdiction, tax, estate planning, trust assets, environmental law, natural resource development, tribal governance, employment, and the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA). The Staff Attorney will assume a varied caseload that may include: brief counsel and services to low-income Indian individuals; state and federal court litigation; contract negotiation; advising tribal clients; developing and implementing constitutions, codes, and policies for tribal clients; and making community presentations. The Staff Attorney will be expected to appear on behalf of tribal clients in state dependency actions where the ICWA is applicable. The position calls for an attorney who can successfully work to defend public schools and other governmental entities on issues involving special education/disability rights litigation as well as provide advice and consultation to public schools in the area of special education/disability rights. Attention to detail and excellent research and writing skills are required. Public speaking experience, strong interpersonal skills, IDEA due process proceeding and litigation experience, State and OCR Complaint experience, and experience with school districts or other governmental entities are preferred. A background in special education or education is a plus, as is experience representing governmental entities in federal litigation.
