Played golf this past week with three, 38 year old success stories. Easy to see this dudes have done well. Thought of my son, Jordan, their same age. He too has done well.
None of us, on that particular day, played golf very well. All of us were frustrated with our games. We were not doing well. This too was easy to see. I'm not sure why the three of them played poorly but I know my problem. Too quick at the top. Did not trust the swing fully. Out of rhythm. Did not tell myself to find my authentic swing and swing away without fear. Was afraid of being too much, so was too little. Was afraid of being too soft, so swung just slightly too hard. Got frustrated with my inability to control myself and swing. Forgot what my authentic swing actually feels like. Damn.
Hey 38 year olds. 28 year olds. Even 18 year olds. Find your authentic swing. Commit fully to your shot. Substitute frustration with goodnesses and graciousnesses. You are playing. Enjoy the game.
This is not about golf. Apply this to life.
Play with it. Play through it. Don't let slow players in front of you, or pressing dumbASSes behind you, take your eye off the ball. Play. Play your game, with your family and friends, and find the joy in it.
Note to self? Take your own medicine, Chet. Play. That's why we call it the game of life, right?
Live hard. Love harder…
