So be careful how you live. Don't live like ignorant people, but like wise people. Make good use of every opportunity you have, because these are evil days. Don't be fools, then, but try to find out what the Lord wants you to do. Ephesians 5:15-17
I have been doing several studies on wisdom lately. I do not want to live in ignorance. I want to walk constantly in wisdom, more specifically God's wisdom.
Yesterday I was listening to a podcast and they were talking about how many people are immobilized by the word "no". They talked about how people fear the rejection so they don't start or quickly stop when they are confronted with someone telling them "no".
It reminded me of something I had heard in school about a salesperson intentionally seeking though. Goal was to get a specific number of nos each day. Desensitized him to rejection and went on to make him a top producer in cells in his market.
On the podcast, the guest encouraged listeners to look at "no" as "next opportunity." I believe God does too. He says "to make the most out of every opportunity". Means that we can make the most out of the yeses and the nos. It means we can make the most out of successes and failures. We can learn from everything. We can grow in all opportunities, even those that don't turn out as we want.
The wisest thing that we can do in any opportunity is to seek God's direction to understand what He wants us to do. This can be done by finding answers in His word to direct us. He does not want us to do anything contrary to the Bible. We can also seek Godly counsel. It can be good to speak to others who will also seek God's direction for you and not just tell you what you want to hear. Not every good idea is a God idea. Lastly but just as importantly, seek Holy Spirit's guidance and direction. Quite yourself to hear his still quiet voice. As the heart and mind of Christ and can direct you to the path to take.
Every person has opportunities that are placed before them. We are called to make the most of all of those opportunities. We can even make the most of bad opportunities that we encounter. We are encouraged to seek God's direction to find out what He wants us to do. We can do this through the Bible, through Godly counsel and through Holy Spirit.
Prayer- Lord, I ask for Your wisdom in the opportunities that are before me. I want to do what You want me to do. I seek Your truth in the Scriptures. Lord surround me with Godly counsel. Help me to quiet myself and listen to Holy Spirit. Direct me in each step I take. In Jesus' name. Amen,
