I ground the stuff for a long time (or what felt like it) then sifted it. I decided to experiment and took a little out of the mortar and worked the linseed oil into what looked like flour and felt like a sandbox.
Then I took a brush to see how it would go. Luckily, I wasn't expecting much. I went back to grinding, pondering the kind of patience Native Americans, Stone Age people and painters for forever had to have to get paint from earth and stones like malachite and lapis. I have it, actually, which is pretty surprising. Now I'm considering either not doing the demonstration or doing it with already prepared raw pigment which I have. I don't think I want to waste whatever I finally succeed in getting. We'll see.
