Acts 19:1-7 – While Apollos was in Corinth, Paul traveled through the interior of the province and arrived in Ephesus. There he found some disciples and asked them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you became believers?" "We have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit," they answered. "Well, then, what kind of baptism did you receive?" Paul asked. "The baptism of John," they answered. Paul said, "The baptism of John was for those who turned from their sins; and he told the people of Israel to believe in the one who was coming after him—that is, in Jesus." When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Paul placed his hands on them, and the Holy Spirit came upon them; they spoke in strange tongues and also proclaimed God's message.
During the first years following the resurrection of Christ, I can't imagine how difficult it must have been to be a follower of Christ. Christ did not write anything down to leave behind. What He left was His message imprinted on the hearts of men and women. It was through those initial followers that, eventually, the Word became in written form for us to read, study, and absorb. I can only imagine what it would be like to find out that there's somebody called the Holy Spirit long after you have given your life to Christ. I mean, looking back, I can see how it could happen, but that must have been an astonishing experience to absorb by these new Christians.

As I got to thinking, I realized how many people who claim to be Christians today really don't know the Holy Spirit who is there to lead, guide, and direct. That the Holy Spirit is there to indwell and take you to another level in your journey with Christ. Unfortunately, so many followers don't have the voice of the Holy Spirit speaking to them every day. Guiding them every way. Experiencing the greatness of God when there doesn't seem to be any real way.
Today, slap yourself and pay attention. The Holy Spirit is there for you and can make the journey so much better.
Stay healthy and have a blessed week!
