20 years of training as a shaman
20 years of training as a shaman Someone mentioned this during an interview where different angles were discussed, for example about shamanism. The world has known many shamans over the centuries, who are mainly connected to the indigo tribes. The shamans from the rainforests or in Africa in the villages who live in the traditional way.
When I saw this interview with different speakers around the world, this stood out to me. Not those who lived in my country centuries ago, the low countries, or as they call the Netherlands. The history of the tribes that lived here even centuries before Christ, I even had to look them up. Because what I know or know, I learned in history lessons at school.
Celtic and Roman influences, as well as the different tribes together, such as the Franks or Batavian. The tribes that were in the area of the Netherlands at that time, around 57 BC, left no written records, so all information known about them during this pre-Roman period is based on what the Romans and Greeks said about them.
Caesar's own commentaries de Bello Gaelic. Two main tribes he believes lived in what is now the Netherlands were the Menapians and the Eburones, both in the south. In the north, the Frisians. We were fishermen in early history and later on, agriculture was also developed. So many influences in those early days. So, what was their view on religion and spirituality?
How has this still affected us as humanity? I know from my memory that my grandparents were born in the late 1800s and lived through 2 world wars. They had to grow their own vegetables and had 1 cow for milk, fruit trees, and some land to cultivate. Chickens for the eggs and had enough to be sustainable and self-sufficient.
They used the harvest of vegetables to preserve them also in winter, to canned them with salt and vinegar. Ancient remedies arose from the use of plants and herbs as we know them today in our homeopathic remedies.
The wisdom of the grandmothers was passed on to the daughters. It was also the connection to the spiritual world in my family on my father's side. My grandfather was a healer, faith healing, as it was called.
We have several well-known healers in my country, who use herbal knowledge or the connection with spirit and nature. Growing up, I learned the changes that came with the way pharmacy evolved after World War 11.
There was a resurgence of ways to reconnect with the old and ancient healing arts in the 1970s. Crystals again told their stories and the spiritual world became more and more common and talked about through psychics or through channeling. Books on Gnostic subjects appeared. Shamanism and other ways to connect with spirit and the natural world.
So on one hand, we had the way our society was rapidly changing because of technology, and on the other hand, this movement of the baby boomers. The New Age times. My journey started in my early twenties after surgery, was told I had to live with it.
The medical world had no answer. Always curious about the way energy works, as well as my interest in other ways of healing. Starting with courses on Natural Healing, and working with crystals.
Trying to figure out how my connection on a physical level was affected by my emotions, my mental state of being, and the experiences and challenges. Being the sum of the whole, not just the physical. It taught me a lot as I became more in touch with the way universal law works.
I always gravitated to the basics, was grounded, and also used my common sense. I knew how important it is to be balanced and grounded on this planet. My inner connection to Gaia was so deeply rooted in my heart and soul. Always played in the woods as a child, close to home. Taking early morning walks at sunset among the trees and birds singing, heralding a brand-new day.
Breathe in the freshness of the early morning air, and feel connected to all the nature. I knew then, on a deep level, how important this was to me. Always looking for ways to be in nature when I was dealing with problems. Be it physical or emotional.
Walking through the woods was always healing, and it was a great way to find some answers along the way. My mind was at ease during these walks, so my inner connection was able to release any tension.
The shamanic ways of connecting with the elements, the minerals. The spirit world is self-evident even to me. Like the way, the Druids were part of my ancestral lines. Being sober and loving nature has brought me so much. Gradually discovered, during my courses and training, implementing this in myself. We are all part of this planet and this world.
We also have a responsibility to balance and grow. Everything is connected, and everything is energy in motion. The need to align, work together, and care for each other also has an effect on our planet. We are all part of this evolutionary energy of healing and connection to bring in love, joy, compassion, and kindness.
Towards each other, education to those who need to learn how to develop community on a global scale. It all starts within. Ourselves. Just like the shamanic way, it is part of every way to make contact. It will happen in a loving connection with each other.
