What you need to know about the road to healing …
1. It will hurt. Re-experiencing the past is painful and heart-wrenching. Often, it is easier to just look away. But in order to heal, we need to revisit the past.
2. It will take time and effort. A lot of time and a lot of effort. Recovery takes longer than you want it to take, and is a lot harder than you imagine it will be. It's never just as simple as 'deciding to let go'.
3. It will require commitment. Because you will want to give up. There will be times when you will be sick of the fall-out. Sick of the pain. Sick of the struggle. Sick of it all.
4. It will require perseverance. Because it's gruelling and never-ending. Because there will be times when you will lose faith in the process, and will start to believe "it will never get better." But it will.
5. You will need to keep on making healthy decisions. Because unhealthy decisions won't add to your growth. And you are committed to your growth and freedom.
6. It will require pain and sacrifice. But you already know that. And you've counted the cost (even though the cost seems to keep going up at times.) Also, what is the alternative? Honestly? What will happen if you give up, and give in? It isn't worth it, and you know that. The price for giving up and giving in will be greater.
7. You will need to push yourself to the max on occasions. But that is when you discover you're braver, stronger, and more courageous than you ever knew. And, in its own way, that's life-giving and inspiring.
8. There will be tough days and discouragement. That's life, though. Push through it. Don't let it get to you. Tomorrow could be different. It's another chance, and day. It will all be worth it. You'll get there eventually. I promise!
"Healing is not an overnight process. It takes time. Sometimes you'll feel like you're finally getting better, and then the wound will reopen and bleed. Don't give up. Don't get discouraged. Keep on taking it one step at a time."
