A long time ago some scholars had said about books that they make us travel the world sitting at home. But now-a-days in the high speed net of 5G, our mobiles and computers make us travel the world sitting at home more than reading books.
Today books are not only available in physical form, but as a result of communication revolution, they are also available in digital or e-books and other forms. We can also listen to e-books.
But why should we read books when everything is available on mobile and computer?
The harmful effects of reading on mobiles range from eye strain to neck pain, wrist pain and sleep deprivation. It is also difficult to concentrate on the words printed on a small digital screen than on a sheet of paper.
Many people still read regularly, especially religious books, but most of them read quickly as a ritual. Since the mantras, shlokas and verses are mostly in Sanskrit, some people understand, some don't, but they feel that God understands their prayers.
Books are a source of knowledge, culture, imagination, and entertainment. Reading is essential for developing literacy, language and critical thinking skills, expanding vocabulary, and for overall happiness and success in life.
So we should buy good books- religious, spiritual or books of our own choice. There is only one thing that can replace a book, and that is the next book. It is important to have a variety of reading materials available, in order to ensure that we are exposed to a variety of information and interests.
Let's make a habit of reading by taking some time out of our busy schedule. Let's make reading a priority and read what interests us. If needed, we may read aloud, and take notes and monitor progress. Some apps can help us keep track of our reading goals. A book club or discussion forum can also be joined, if possible.
We used to study before this mobile and internet era. Just have to start over once again. You will see how positively it is affecting your thinking and mood. And never forget to read a good book or a few pages of it while sleeping at night. Books don't sleep, but can make you sleep with good thoughts.
