'Cafe - milk, solo?' the old Spanish man asked.
'Yes, solo.'
I don't have dairy milk if I can avoid it, but in this moment, I nervously said whatever was easiest to simplify and end this part of the interaction. The man had said he didn't speak English.
On a recent solo trip abroad, I wrestled with why I was there. If travelling with another, somehow, this question doesn't arise so strongly, for me. It seems natural to travel with another - you have more safety, support and, I guess, easy interaction.
