I am chuckling here, but God is so good to me as in, Lord I just don't know how to put this into words. What is "this thing" I can't seem to explain very well? Well, why I feel so strongly about the need to convince conservative people that seating reason on the throne of moral superiority and mocking the emotional and non material/spiritual, is actually part of what is destroying our world, destroying our communities.
I've written multiple posts about this matter over the years and recently we had a pretty good discussion going on over, "People Are Ruled by Reason and Other Lies."
The Lord is so good to me in the sense that I promptly threw my knee out and was forced to sit around with an ice pack and boom, what comes streaming through the intertoobs but a recent interview with Russell Brand. You don't have to watch it, but I found it really interesting so here is a link, "Russell Brand FINALLY Opens Up: Escaping A Lifetime Of Anxiety, Addiction & Finding Love! "
He states some truths far more effectively then I know how to do. What delighted me the most was how comfortable he was talking about the emotional and the non material, the non tangible, aka, the spiritual. He is also discussing his trauma, his emotional strongholds that led him to behave in a particular way, in his case addiction and self harm. He speaks about how he believes there is a deep spiritual appetite in each of us for connection, however, we have a culture that is predicated on individualism and materialism that does not support that.
He also said, "if you don't access the Divine, you will worship the profane." Amen to that!
Note also the fact that this is not a gender thing at all, that Russell Brand is actually a man walking through the emotional and spiritual, the non material, more gracefully then I am capable of explaining. True, he is not a conservative, but he isn't exactly "woke" either. He has been a powerful voice for what we shall call, "the covid anti authoritarians." In fact, he mentions teaching his own children that very thing, "question authority." I'm sure it makes bedtime very inconvenient, but it does demonstrate his belief system.
Brand never said any of this, it is my own conclusion, but we are a broken community, with a deep spiritual appetite in each of us for connection, trapped in a culture that only worships individualism, materialism, and power/authority. That is going to change. That has to change, because the path we have been on is not working and we are heading towards destruction.
So now let me alienate my last few remaining readers, conservatives no longer have any moral authority. That's a tough pill to swallow and people want to deny it, but it's the truth. Conservatives want to stick with this authoritarian /power based model where might makes right and everyone else is just irrational and in rebellion. They do not want to listen to people, they do not want to empathize with those who are suffering, and they do not want to self reflect. In fact, they pretty much just want to go to war with the opposition. I understand that and I would sure like to see some justice and accountability myself, however, our children are currently dying of fentanyl overdoses. People are risking their lives trying to get into this country in part to escape US foreign policies. The economy is collapsing. Broken families are producing traumatized individuals. People no longer trust our institutions.
If we want to be part of the solution we have to change the entire dynamic to one that rejects the worship of individualism, materialism, power/authority and instead deal with people on an emotional level, one that nurtures the deep spiritual appetite we each have for connection.
The entire Left is built on exploiting that, "deep spiritual appetite we each have for connection." It's innate, biological, a need common to humans. That's why people join ANTIFA, why heterosexuals go to Pride parades, why everybody is suddenly non binary or gender questioning. It's why kids go join gangs. That's why people are still driving alone in their cars with masks on. It is far, far more powerful then facts, reason, common sense, appeals to authority or teaching critical thinking. People will do anything to fit in, to feel heard, acknowledged, and a part of something.
Kind of like how some Christians on Twitter will spend a lot of time talking about what they are against rather then what they are for, and by the time they are finished no one wants what they have because all they have is potential rejection.
It all sounds touchy feely or hippy dippy to some ears I suppose, but Jesus said to love one another. If we are going to love one another then we have to be willing to, "weep with those who weep, mourn with those who mourn" and suffer with those who suffer. If you aren't willing to do that, why would people try to elect you anyway?
