So, I turned 50 in July and I think turning 50 is my new fave! I know it may sound strange, but I've always loved getting older. It might have to do with being one of the younger ones in my large family and always wanting to be like the "big kids." Of course, I could do with out the extra wrinkles and grey hair, but other than that, I LOVE IT! I guess just because I DECIDED to LOVE it! I feel more comfortable in my own skin, more sure of God's great love and acceptance of me, and more confident in the wisdom God has given me gained from decades of experiences (positive and negative, because it's all a gift, right?).
I've been hearing much lately about the concept of middle-age-puberty! I must say, I quite agree with it :)Eeks! Everything is changing! Your body, your hormones, your home life as you may be approaching the empty nest or already find yourself in it. Your self-concept may look different, as you might be changing a career or now have time to step out into a passion.
Who is the woman you want to become? I think sometimes we hit mid-life and we stop asking ourselves that and so we stop growing. We think that is a question we ask little girls or young adult girls headed off to college, but once we reach 40s & 50s we think "This IS who I am." That I've already accomplished some things and I guess it's enough.
But God has a plan for us to continue to "grow up" our entire lives! No matter what the past looks like, there's still so much more maturing and growing and learning yet to do. Growth is a sign of health. Plants and trees continue to grow for many years beyond human years. It's God's law of Seedtime & Harvest and we all started as seeds, too, and thus His will for us is to become "a mature man, to the measure and the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ."
Whether you are 18 or 88, God still has more for you to do if you are brave enough to STEP OUT! For the gifts and callings of God are IRREVOCABLE! He does NOT take them back! And most likely you've been doing them your entire life, through many seasons, and using them in many ways. But God needs you to partner with Him NOW in this season and pick those things back up. Those things in your heart that set you on fire, that you love and enjoy so much you'd do it for free, all day, every day!
